Pedroia has cortisone injection for inflamed wrist

CHICAGO—Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia said he was given a cortisone shot to stem the inflammation in his left wrist, in an area close to where he tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb a year ago. And while Pedroia expressed relief that tests showed the wrist wasn’t fractured—“If it was broke, I’d have been out a long time”—the condition sounds like one that could be potentially troublesome throughout the year.

Pedroia relieved, hopes to play Wednesday

Dustin Pedroia admits he had some concern that something was seriously wrong with his left hand. Instead, it was just inflammation, and the invaluable second baseman could be back in the lineup as early as Wednesday. “Very [relieved].” Pedroia said. “If it was broke, I would have been out a long time. Muddy Chicken Back In Boston For Wrist MRI

Muddy Chicken Back In Boston For Wrist MRI

This could be season-busting. Dustin Pedroia was scratched from Sunday's game in New York with a sore left wrist that he injured in the home opener on April 4th. He is being sent back to Boston for an MRI on the wrist today at Mass General. Team sources say the injury could be "serious". Losing Pedroia for any stretch of time is a problem—but losing him for a long stretch would be devastating. Not only would the team lose his leadership and on-field performance, they really have no one to credibly back him up at second base. With the team mired in last place and unable to get big hits with...
