Milwaukee Brewers’ Eric Thames on promising spring upswing

On March 13, Eric Thames, the Milwaukee Brewers‘ unconventional first base signee, was only 4-for-24 to start the spring. Despite the high hopes for Thames’ return to Major League Baseball after three years in Korea, the seeds of impatience and doubt seemed to be growing in the minds of fans. But there seem to be […] The post Milwaukee Brewers’ Eric Thames on promising spring upswing appeared first on OutsidePitchMLB.

Sunday Sundries - Spring Training Week 3

Sunday Sundries - Spring Training Week 3

Lots of hitting this week for the Brewers. A 24 run outburst during a week usually leads to some nice looking overall stats, but the Brewers scored often most of the week. Unfortunately, that only translated into a 3-3-1 week, with a couple of one run losses thrown in. TOP HITTING STORY: Let’s continue looking at the team as a whole. For the week, the Brewers scored 63 runs; they hit .360, on-based at .458, and slugged .598. That’s and OPS of 1.058. 36 extra base hits in 7 games is impressive. They did strike out 65 times, and for the spring are 3rd in that category. Eric Thames’ bat...

Jesus Aguilar homers again as Milwaukee Brewers beat Padres, 5-3

Jesus Aguilar homers again as Milwaukee Brewers beat Padres, 5-3

The slugging first baseman continues to make a strong case to make the Opening Day roster. After losing a pair of split-squad games Friday, the Brewers started a new winning streak with a 5-3 win over the San Diego Padres. Ryan Braun made his second appearance in a Cactus League game, and got the Brewers offense started early with an RBI double in the first inning to drive in Eric Thames. Matt Garza pitched into the third inning today, but ran into a bit of trouble allowing a single to former Brewer Luis Sardinas (who was caught stealing by Jett Bandy), two walks, and then an RBI single to...

Ariel Miranda gets his second start of the spring Today the Mariners take on the Brewers and old friend Eric Thames. For real! Matt Garza gets the start, who will try to abstain from giving up a ton of runs to the Mariners. We will see how well that works out. For the Mariners, Ariel Miranda makes his second start of the spring. Treasure up these last few appearances by Cruz and Segura, both of whom will be leaving for the WBC next week. Milwaukee Brewers 2017 Preview by Position: First Base

Milwaukee Brewers 2017 Preview by Position: First Base

Eric Thames will look to bring stability at a position that’s been unsettled for most of this decade. Since the long-ago end of the Prince Fielder era in Milwaukee, first base has been a revolving door for the Brewers. We’ve seen a multitude of players try their hand at the position, but never for longer than one season at a time; Corey Hart manned first in 2012, then Juan Francisco and a slew of former shortstops in 2013, the Lyle Overbay/Mark Reynolds platoon of 2014, Adam Lind in 2015, and finally Chris Carter last season. After somewhat surprisingly non-tendering Carter in the wake...
