Brad Miller loses to Yankees On a hot day at New Yankee Stadium, the Bombers bombs proved too much for the Tampa Bay Millers. Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge got things rolling early for the Yankees, when they became the first teammates ever to homer in their first major league at bats in the same game, going back-to-back in the second inning off Matt Andriese. The Rays would answer, briefly taking the lead in the fourth off Masahiro Tanaka. Kevin Kiermaier started the rally with a one-out bunt single, followed by an Evan Longoria single to right, bringing up the angriest man in baseball....

Over the weekend, Marc Topkin published a piece in the Tampa Bay Times detailing the soon-to-be 31-year old Evan Longoria’s desire to win, as soon as possible. This is an incredibly understandable desire, and one we expect top flight athletes to have, particularly when their career is suddenly resurgent to levels we have not seen in a couple years. Tonight, the Rays took on the Blue Jays, a team that is in the hunt for a playoff spot. The Jays started the day with the bad news that Kevin Pillar, their talented center fielder, had been placed on the DL with a thumb injury. We certainly know the feeling! Pillar’s injury did allow Rays fans to see something they had not seen for a while: the sight of Melvin Upton, Jr. patrolling center. Early Innings: Teams Trade Runs The Jays took a 2-0 lead in the first, thanks to a ball Mikie Mahtook misplayed into a triple; a sac fly, and an Encarnacion home run. While Mahtook’s fielding...
