Rays 1, Yankees 4: Offense, Bullpen Not Sharp In Loss To Yankees

Brandon Gomes and Everett Teaford aren't enough out of the pen to keep the Yankees off the board. The Rays five game winning streak came to an end Monday night at the hands of the Yankees, as did their one day stay atop the American League East. This game was pretty uneventful as a whole, so let's take a look at each three facets of the game individually. Hitting: The biggest threat (meaning multiple men in scoring position) the offense posed was in the first inning when Steven Souza singled and Asdrubal Cabrera doubled with one out. Unfortunately, Evan Longoria struck out and James Loney...

Rays replacements coming through, Elmore and Dykstra plate runs

After the Rays dropped a weekend sweep to the Yankees, then failed to turn around a masterful Chris Archer performance in a loss to Boston on an unearned run, hopes were not high. That's the nature of baseball, you live and die on the 162 Game roller coaster. One of the strengths of Joe Maddon was ability to keep a neutral clubhouse, and the stone-cold Kevin Cash may be just as capable. The Rays put up seven runs last night, waiting on Joe Kelly to eventually implode. He would in the sixth inning. The Rays hit four consecutive singles -- Asdrubal Cabrera, Evan Longoria, Desmond Jennings,...

Evan Longoria injury update after Hit By Pitch in Toronto

Day-to-day, but feeling ok? The big story from last night was the drilling of Evan Longoria. After Archer clipped two batters in his more-wild seventh, the Blue Jays quite intentionally nailed Longoria in the hip with a fastball. There was no doubt that it was intentional, and Longoria was clearly injured. He didn't even make it to first base before he was sent to the locker room. He's day-to-day, and at risk of becoming the 10th Rays player on the DL. Some notes per Marc Topkin: "I'm gonna do my best to play,'' Longoria said after the game in Toronto. "Gut feeling...

Evan Longoria hits Opening Day homerun

Evan Longoria hit the first Rays home run of the season, a long shot to deep left field. Making beautiful contact off a Chris Tillman slider down and in during the seventh inning, Longoria scored the first Rays run during what's been a difficult game for the club. Most of all, however, was the sound. Just listen to that lovely knock the ball makes against Longo's lumber. Baseball is back. This marks Longoria's third career home run on Opening Day, which marks a club record for the first game of the season. Video above courtesy of Rays Index on twitter, including the Rays Radio...
