Anticipation key part of Evan Longoria's defense

ST. PETERSBURG — Evan Longoria is into mind games. Especially while playing baseball games.

Can Tillman match Gausman's success against Longoria - School of Roch

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - During his start in the series opener against the Rays, Kevin Gausman threw his slider on six of his seven pitches to Evan Longoria spread over two-bats - both ending in strikeouts. He seemed to have a plan in mind. Let's see how Chris Tillman goes...

Rays vs. Yankees, game 3 recap: Happy Birthday Souza; Rays Win big

Souza became the third player to hit two home runs on his birthday at Yankee Stadium (new and old) joining Justin Morneau and Bernie Williams. The Rays looked to salvage game three in a frustrating series in New York that saw them fall just short in two winnable games. The Rays had a good opportunity with their best-performing pitcher on the mound in Drew Smyly. Rays Strike Early The Rays started the game off slowly with Logan Forsythe striking out and Logan Morrison grounding out to first base. But with two strikes, Evan Longoria got the party started with a double off the center field...

Tampa Bay Rays news and links: Ducky's in the airport

It'll be in terminal A. We're almost two hours late. But Chris Archer can't execute his pitches, on normal rest, so why would you think I can execute a tank on short rest? Links: - From Chastain, Evan Longoria likes pitchers who work fast, and has funny quotes about Jeremy Hellickson (who did not work fast). - From Topkin, apparently David Price, pitching against Evan Longoria before, has tried to hug him while tagging him out. Longoria declined. - Also from Topkin, Chris Archer talks about his struggles, saying that the problem is pitch execution. - From Mooney, Longoria thinks Price is...

Rays vs. White Sox game two recap: Runs. Finally, runs.

Turns out there was nothing wrong with the Rays that a little John Danks and Erasmo Ramirez couldn't fix. And you were worried. Silly Rays fan. Didn't you realize that staff ErACEmo was toeing the rubber today? With a 60-65 pitch limit, it figured to be a busy bullpen day. But Erasmo Ramirez flipped the script and went 5 2/3 shutout, scattering three hits and walking no one while fanning four. It was a masterful performance when the Rays needed it most. He was also backed by nice defense, including this play in the fourth with two on and two out, when Evan Longoria went into the stands to...

Game Recap 8; Rays 5, Indians 1; Forsythe, Longoria Power Rays To Late W

With a solid effort by Matt Moore on the mound and some late power from Logan Forsythe and Evan Longoria, the Rays kicked off the home stand with a 5-1 win over the Cleveland Indians and their ace, Corey Kluber. After a cold, blustery, and all together disappointing road trip to Baltimore, the Rays came home to a sunny and 75 degree St. Pete to kick off a long home-stand. The visiting Cleveland Indians welcomed playing under the dome as well, as they only played four games in the season's opening week, after three games got postponed due to a snowy storm impacting the Midwest. On their road...

Evan Longoria has stopped taking walks

The Rays just capped off a four game series with the Toronto Blue Jays, where they nearly floundered on offnese through the first two games and then rallied for victories during the final two. The games featured everything, good pitching, timely hitting, massive home runs, stellar defensive plays, everything...that is, except an Evan Longoria base on balls. Longoria has only come up the plate 17 times and so far is 5-for-17, with two doubles and zero walks. That's good for a .294 average, and an identical .294 on-base percentage. For some reason, Evan just hasn't drawn a walk, and upon...

Is this blatant, sexist objectification really what the Rays stand for? [NSFW]

The Rays flagship radio station specializes in tweeting photos of women's boobs and butts. Are the Rays really ok with this? Just this week Blue Jays manager John Gibbons made a casually sexist comment about putting players in dresses and rightly received a lot of pushback. But what about teams and team-branded outlets that are expressing overt sexism? The flagship radio station for the Rays, 620 WDAE, regularly uses its twitter account and website to share pictures of scantily clad woman, "underboob" and anything else presumably likely to draw the attention of the male...

Series Preview: Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles

Rain, rain, go away. This weekend the Rays head up north to take on the Baltimore Orioles. Or so we hope.  Saturday night's forecast projects temperatures in the 30s with potential for rain or snow.  Not so rainy/snowy the other days but if they are lucky temperatures might hit 50 degrees.  And this, folks, is why we (or some of us) live in Florida. Baltimore comes into the series sitting atop the AL East with a 3-0 record after sweeping the Minnesota Twins. Baltimore Offense Over the last 3 years the players on the current Orioles roster have hit 599 home runs, and there's every reason...

Good luck to James Loney as he thankfully joined a National League team James Loney has officially moved on to another organization as he signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres. He'll likely stay a few weeks in the minors, but will eventually receive the call to the majors and he'll be joining a roster that features a "who's who" of former Rays as James Shields, Wil Myers, Melvin Upton, and Fernando Rodney all have roster spots with the Padres. This Date in Team History 7-7 Record All-time 2001 - Pedro Martinez and Derek Lowe team up to completely dominate the Rays...
