Felix Doubront delivers after slow start

There have been moments throughout his career when Felix Doubront has been really good and moments when he has been really mediocre.Yesterday, in the first inning against the Baltimore Orioles, it looked like it’d be the latter. The first batter of the game, Nick Markakis, singled. The third batter, Adam Jones, walked. And the fifth batter, Nelson Cruz, shot an RBI single to left. But after Doubront struck out Matt Wieters to end the inning, something clicked.

Red Sox 4, Orioles 2: Felix Doubront finds his rhythm, Red Sox rebound

Felix Doubront stumbled out of the gates, but recovered in time to turn in a winning performance. Felix Doubront recovered from early struggles and the Red Sox managed to cobble together enough offense in support as Boston rebounded from a disappointing Friday night loss to top the Orioles 4-2. It took Doubront 29 pitches to get out of the first. That's generally not a good sign for any pitcher's outing. He couldn't put batters away, and gave up a run on a trio of baserunners--two hits and a walk--putting the Red Sox in an early hole. Heading to the bottom of the inning wasn't too bad, but...

Rapid Reaction: Red Sox 4, Orioles 2

BOSTON -- A quality start from Felix Doubront and a seventh-inning rally full of intrigue yielded the Red Sox a 4-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles before a sellout crowd of 37,689 Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park. Here’s how it went down: For Felix, a cat-like rebound: After a shaky start, Doubront found his groove in the middle innings. Despite striking out the side in the first, Doubront labored through 29 pitches while the Orioles took a 1-0 lead on a Nelson Cruz RBI single to center, bounding past the dive of Red Sox shortstop Jonathan Herrera.

Breaking down Felix Doubront's struggles

Breaking down Felix Doubront's struggles

Felix Doubront has not started off the season hot through three starts, despite flashes of excellence in the recent past. So, what's happening to the Boston lefty? Through the first three games of the season, Felix Doubront has not been particularly sharp on the mound. The 26-year-old southpaw sports a 6.75 ERA, 1.77 WHIP with eight strikeouts and seven walks in 14.2 innings pitched. Some have begun to doubt the Carabobo, Venezuela native's future in the Red Sox rotation. Statistically, Doubront has been routinely average the last two seasons in the rotation. Last year, Doubront posted a...

Don't give up on Felix Doubront yet

Don't give up on Felix Doubront yet

Felix Doubront had a disaster outing, and is off to one very bad start. But if 2013 is any indication, it's much too early to give up on the lefty. Felix Doubront had a rough Tuesday night, no question about it. Even if you discount the chopper-turned-double, Grady Sizemore's terrible read, and Xander Bogaerts' less-than-impressive diving effort, Felix gave up some hard hit balls, failed to adapt to the strike zone, and generally crumbled. The end result was five Rangers runs, and a game lost before the bottom of the third. The reaction from the fanbase was...about what you'd expect. Calls...

Felix Doubront roughed up by Rangers in 10-7 Red Sox loss

It started out as a beautiful night at Fenway, a balmy 63 degrees at the early 6:10 game time, but then things got ugly fast and the Red Sox went down to defeat to the Rangers, 10-7.

Closing Time: Felix Doubront’s poor start too much for Red Sox to overcome in loss to Rangers

The Red Sox harbored high hopes that this might be the year in which Felix Doubront took a significant step forward, that he emerged with the sort of dependability that could make him a staple of the rotation for some years to come. He showed up in spring training in improved shape as compared to [...]
