Franklin Gutierrez rehabbing in right field

CBSSports.com Fantasy — The Mariners will have outfielder Franklin Gutierrez play in right field during his rehab, the Seattle Times reports. “We want him to play some right field as well as center field for a couple of reasons,” manager Eric Wedge said. "One…I think it’s easier to stay healthy if you’re playing left field or right field versus center field. Two, [Michael] Saunders has been great in center field."The Mariners will not activate Gutierrez until he's fully healthy. Franklin Gutierrez to be used often in right field during rehab stint

Mariners Blog | Seattle Times — We're a couple of hours from gametime and Michael Saunders is getting a rare day off for the Mariners, having played 15 games in a row. Saunders has looked tired at the plate his last two games, so the rest comes at a good time. You can expect to see Saunders playing a lot of center field going forward, perhaps even once Franklin Gutierrez is ready to return off the disabled list. Gutierrez was slotted to play right field last night for Class AAA Tacoma prior to being moved to the DH spot because of slick field conditions. I asked manager Eric Wedge this morning whether we should read anything...

  • Peguero up, Gutierrez to DL
The Mariners continue their attempt to break their own record of most corner OF/DH on a roster at one time, and have added another member today. Carlos Peguero takes Franklin Gutierrez's spot on the 25-man roster after Gutierrez put the finishing touches on yet another injury, finally severe enough to knock him off the roster. Gutierrez hurt himself diving for a ball in center field last night and was forced to leave the game in the 4th inning. The Mariners now have one player who can play center field in Endy Chavez, and while Michael Saunders is eligible to return from the disabled ...

A few quick updates … Eric Wedge said that Franklin Gutierrez will have an MRI on Thursday. There really is no timetable for his return. It’s frustrating for Wedge. But at least there isn’t the unknown of whether Gutierrez will be available each day. Endy Chavez will play the bulk of the time in center field. Jason Bay will be the emergency center fielder. “He’ll be fine if we need him out there” Wedge said. So why did Wedge choose Carlos Peguero over Eric Thames for the roster? “We talked about Eric as well, but I just … Read more »
  • Exploring the Robbed Home Run That Was Robbed
I watched very little of Saturday night's contest between the Mariners and Rangers and feel pretty good about my decision. It's a long season, and never too early to start rationing disappointment. The end of Jon's excellent recap caught my attention, however, and I can't quite seem to shake the play from my mind. I'm talking specifically of Franklin Gutierrez being robbed of robbing a home run by a certain overzealous Rangers fan. You know the one. Just what the hell are we supposed to think about that? First, the play. It was the fourth inning and Brandon Maurer fell behind A.J. Pie...

Another day without Franklin Gutierrez and his tight legs in the line-up. At this point, it should not be surprising when he doesn’t play in back to back games. “If we play him again today, it’s just going to be another step back,” Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. “If you give him today, we can start going back to back days with him. For him to get better, it’s what we have to do.” There is a chance that the Mariners could place Gutierrez on the 15-day disabled list. They could do it when Michael Saunders is healthy … Read more »

Franklin Gutierrez, Brendan Ryan and Jesus Montero are all back in the line-up today. Call me crazy. Call me stupid. But I think the Mariners are going to score more than five runs in this game. I have no reason for this belief. Ok, well it’s 70ish out and the wind is blowing pretty hard today. Now I didn’t say they would win.
