Angels Blog | ESPN Los Angeles The last time Los Angeles Angels right-hander Ryan Madson threw a pitch in a big league regular-season game was late September 2011, in the eighth inning against the Atlanta Braves. Madson retired Chipper Jones, Dan Uggla and Freddie Freeman without incident, and on 14 pitches. Since then, Madson has been paid by the Cincinnati Reds and Angels, but he hasn't logged an inning for either squad. It's going to be a bit longer before he does. Read F ...
Los Angeles Angels May 17, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy Freddie Freeman has been slow to produce since coming off the 15-day disabled list, but he is showing signs of putting his oblique injury behind him. After notching just one extra-base hit over his first 11 games back with the Braves, he has now registered two doubles and a home run in his last three games. As of now, Freeman is outside the top 30 first basemen in points leagues and top 20 in Rotisserie leagues, as he has provided a .319 batting average with little power. However, Freeman has been a line drive machine, smashing frozen ropes at a 34 percent rate, while only 30 percent of his hi...

Cincinnati Reds May 7, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman finished a triple shy of the cycle and drove in three runs during a 9-4 rout of the Mets Sunday. He went 3 for 5 with a solo homer off Jeurys Familia in the sixth inning -- his second of the season and first since returning from the disabled list. Freeman has now registered a hit in three consecutive games to improve his season average to .313. He has collected three RBI in four separate outings on the year.
May 5, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy It took Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman a while to get going in his return from an oblique strain, but he appears to have found his stroke. Freeman went 3 for 5 with three RBI Tuesday against the Nationals, his second multi-hit game in the last four. Freeman has one extra-base hit in eight games since his return, but it's not like he was stinging the ball before the injury. Freeman has three extra-base hits, including a home run, so the cold spell is probably not the result of the injury. That should make you think he is more likely to snap out of it before long. Freeman is owned in 99 pe...
April 30, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy The return of Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman to the lineup last week pushed Chris Johnson back to third base and seemingly back into a platoon with Juan Francisco. But in the six games since Freeman's arrival, Johnson has received the majority of starts at the hot corner over Francisco by a 4-to-2 margin, including every game in Atlanta's recently concluded three-game series at Detroit. Granted, Francisco collected two starts as the designated hitter. Still, Johnson has maintained his solid presence at the plate and leads the National League with a sturdy .387 batting average. He went 4 ...
April 29, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy So much for Chris Johnson being the Braves' every day third baseman. In Freddie Freeman's second and third games back from the DL Wednesday and Thursday, Johnson was out of the lineup in favor of Juan Francisco. Of course, the second might not have happened had Francisco not homered in the first, but that's kind of the problem. For as hot as Johnson has been, leading the majors with a .397 batting average, Francisco has performed well himself, entering Wednesday with a .302 batting average and four home runs. I feel like Francisco has the higher upside of the two, so I don't expect the platoon...
April 25, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, who was activated off the 15-day disabled list Monday, returned to the starting lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader at Colorado. Freeman, who had been sidelined by an oblique injury, started at first base for the first time since April 6.
April 23, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman won't be restricted for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies, barring a setback.Freeman was expected to come off the 15-day disabled list Monday but the contest was postponed due to inclement weather. The 23-year-old has not played since April 6 due to a right oblique strain.
April 22, 2013Chicago White Sox Blog | ESPN Chicago CHICAGO -- There remains no timetable on Dayan Viciedo's return from the disabled list because of an oblique strain, but perhaps the Atlanta Braves' Freddie Freeman can give clues as to how long the Chicago White Sox left fielder might be sidelined. Freeman reportedly will come off the disabled list today after also being out of action with an oblique strain. Everybody is different, not to mention the difference in severity of injuries, but similarities do exist.

April 21, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy Barring any setbacks in the final game of his rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett Sunday, Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman (oblique) is expected to rejoin the team for Monday's series opener at Colorado, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Freeman has played just five games this season and has been out since April 7 with a strained right oblique. In his second outing with Gwinnett Saturday, Freeman went 5 for 5 with three singles and two doubles while also driving in two runs. He also played the entire game at first base and is scheduled do so again Sunday.
April 21, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy With the impending return of regular first baseman Freddie Freeman on Monday, the Braves will send Chris Johnson back across the diamond to play third base. But Johnson, who has served as the primary replacement for Freeman at first, could remain in the starting lineup on an everyday basis, manager Fredi Gonzalez said. Johnson opened the season in a platoon with Juan Francisco at the hot corner but has impressed the team with six multi-hit outings over his past 10 games to vault into the NL lead with a .418 batting average. Meanwhile, Francisco has whiffed seven times over his past three games...
April 21, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman made the first of what is expected to be three rehab appearances Friday at Triple-A Gwinnett, as he continues to recover from a right oblique strain. Freeman went 0 for 3, with a walk, a run scored and three strikeouts while serving as a designated hitter. Freeman will play in the field Saturday and Sunday and is expected to be activated in time for Monday's series beginning in Colorado, according to MLB.com.
April 19, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy If Chris Johnson's 19-for-38 performance over his past nine games has you tempted to pick him up, you might want to pump the breaks. Freddie Freeman is set to return from an oblique injury Monday. His absence is the reason Johnson has been playing every day. He'll have to go back to splitting at-bats with third baseman Juan Francisco, who has been pretty hot himself, with Freeman back. Granted, the Braves will have the DH spot available for their series at Detroit April 26-28, which might buy Johnson another week of mixed-league viability, but otherwise, you can leave him for NL-only formats. ...
