Garrett Jones succeeding despite platoon role

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Pirates first baseman Garrett Jones is off to a strong start this year. Jones has been platooned with Gaby Sanchez throughout the year, but Jones has the benefit of facing right-handed pitchers. Jones has always been a significantly better hitter against righties. Over his career, he's hit .281/.348/.501 in 1,511 at-bats. In virtually the same role, he hit .274/.317/.516, with 27 home runs last season. Given his slightly reduced role, and the abundance of talent at first, Jones' Fantasy value is limited in mixed leagues. But he makes a solid injury fill-in if he's facing right-handers. ...

Garrett Jones stays productive

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Pirates outfielder Garrett Jones had another productive game at the plate Friday against the Mets. Jones collected three hits in the 7-3 win, including belting his fifth home run of the year. He ripped the three-run shot off starter Shaun Marcum in the fifth inning and also doubled and scored twice.Jones finished 3 for 5 in the victory and is hitting .333 with two home runs and five RBI over his last six games (21 at-bats).

Marcum: Thumbs up for injury, not outing

Mets Blog | ESPN New York — The good news for Shaun Marcum: X-rays of his left hand, near the thumb, were negative after he was struck with a line drive off the bat of Wandy Rodriguez. The bad news: Marcum surrendered six runs in 4 2/3 innings, including a three-run homer to Garrett Jones in the fifth. He dropped to 0-3 with an 8.59 ERA in four appearances (three starts) in his Mets career. Marcum is the first pitcher in franchise history to fail to complete five innings in any of his first three starts with the club.

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Phillies reliever Phillippe Aumont had a rough outing Thursday. Aumont allowed three hits, and was charged with three runs in just 1/3 of an inning.
