White Sox, Blue Jays swap waiver claims

GENDALE, Ariz. -- In what essentially turns out to be a trade, the Chicago White Sox lost minor league first baseman Andy Wilkins to a waiver claim by the Toronto Blue Jays two days after the White Sox claimed pitcher Kyle Drabek from Toronto. With the White Sox needing room on their 40-man roster for potential additions such as Micah Johnson and Geovany Soto, the move to take Wilkins off the 40-man roster and try to slip him through waivers was not unexpected.

Soto fit, focused for catcher battle

It has not been uncommon this spring for people to do a double take when they see catcher Geovany Soto walking around the Chicago White Sox’s facility. It’s not because the former Chicago Cubs catcher looks out of place in camp with the South Side team, it has more to do with how he looks. Soto is listed at 235 pounds in his bio at baseballreference.com, he is listed at 220 pounds in the 2015 version of the Chicago White Sox media guide, and he might be even slimmer than that.
