Photo by Zac BonDurant/Icon Sportswire via This was not a good week for our favorite team. The Cubs lost five of six over the last week and let me tell you, it was not easy to find players to put in this week’s “Three up” section. Nevertheless, I did find a handful of positives, so let’s start with them. Three up Ian Happ seems to like leading off David Ross put Happ in the leadoff spot for the last two games against the Diamondbacks and he went 5-for-10. Overall on the road trip Happ batted .348/.444/.565 (8-for-23) with two doubles, a home run and four...

Photo by Andy Lyons/ A Belli Bomb and two other homers helped lead the Cubs to victory. SITE NOTE: Since this game went so quickly, I’m posting a separate recap. There will be a preview for Game 2 that will post at 4:30 p.m. CT. The Cubs began their double dip in Cincinnati on a good note, defeating the Reds 6-2 on the strength of homers by Cody Bellinger, Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki, and some good pitching by Jordan Wicks and three Cubs relievers. The game went scoreless through three, with Wicks and Graham Ashcraft matching zeroes, and the Cubs didn’t have any hits...

Edwin Uceta is now in Iowa. Matt Mervis is hitting again. So is Alexander Canario, and how. Pete...

Photo by Joe Sargent/ Winning ugly. I mean, that other team doesn’t own that label, right? So many random thoughts after Thursday’s game. I think we start where the game basically ended. Ian Happ hit a lob wedge to right with two on in the 10th inning. The ball hung in the air forever and then dropped. The right fielder misplayed it and two runs scored. Dansby Swanson is an extremely aggressive baserunner with the game on the line. I’m not sure he wouldn’t have scored without the bobble, but it ended up not being stressful with the bobble. It felt like a quick...
