Game 84 Preview: 07/05 Padres @ Cardinals

The Padres couldn't come up with a victory  to clinch the series yesterday, but a series win is still in play today as they complete the for - game set in St. Louis. Ian Kennedy takes the mound in the finale, hoping for better defensive support than he's gotten lately. The righty had allowed one earned run in each of his last two starts, but thanks to defensive errors,  opponents scored ten combined runs in that span. And Kennedy will need all the help he can get against the Cards, so have had his number in the past. In six career starts against them, he is 2-4 with a 9.00 ERA. Lance Lynn...

SD 0, SF 6: IPK slammed, Lineup blanked

Ian Kennedy gave up a lot of runs, the Padres scored none. Games like yesterday's late-night extra-inning tooth-and-nail victory can act as a little glimmer of happiness. Especially in the middle of slumps. Games like tonight's can take that happiness, crush it into a little cube, and launch it into the sun. Today's 7 o'clock skirmish against the Giants was nothing but a straight up bummer. Ian Kennedy, following two straight games of almost identical 1-run starts, accomplished the same feat tonight. Only, his earned run was tailed by 5 other unearned runs, 4 of them in the form of a...

Game 74 Preview: 06/24 Padres @ Giants

With a win in yesterday's series opener at AT&T Park, the Padres improved to 5-3 against the Giants this season. They'll try to lock up a series win tonight in game 2 of the three-game set, which will pit Ian Kennedy against Ryan Vogelsong. Kennedy is making his 13th appearance of the season, looking for his fifth win. He gave up one run on four hits and a walk in each of his last two starts, totaling 13 innings of work. He also kept the Giants to one run in his most recent meeting with them, a seven-inning, five-strikeout effort in San Francisco on May 6th. He also opened his 2015 season...

SD 3, OAK 1: Friars win with home runs and good pitching!

Dominate Ian Kennedy and and some solo HR's secure the win. Go figure! Last night's freak show of a game was like a weird lucid dream where you're not sure if it really happened. The score was totally run up, nobody was hitting, and there was a 5'something infielder on the mound. That didn't matter though. As Pat Murphy said yesterday, it was just one loss. Which is true. You can score 15+ runs if you want, but it's only one win. Today, the Padres did it with only 3. Now that's efficient. Taking the mound and looking to not give up a quadrillion runs was Ian Kennedy. Ian's last performance...

Game 64 Preview: 06/13 Padres vs. Dodgers

The Padres will try to even up the series tonight after one of their most disappointing losses of the season. Ian Kennedy makes his 11th appearance, and third against L.A. this year.  He gave up eight earned runs in 4 1/3 innings the last time the Dodgers came to Petco Park back in April.  He had a much better outing against them at Dodger Stadium last month, when he threw six innings of two-run ball. Career-wise, Kennedy is 5-9 with a 4.50 ERA against L.A.  Kennedy will try to improve on a less-than-stellar season in which he's gone 3-5 with a 6.48 ERA. His latest appearance saw him go...

Video: Getting to know Yankees’ top pick James Kaprielian

Drafted on Monday, the Yankees’ top pick, James Kaprielian, did a conference call with beat writers this week. He came across as well-spoken and excited; confident without being cocky. He’s been compared to Ian Kennedy — probably because both were high-probability Yankees picks out of college; not so much because their stuff is the exact […] The post Video: Getting to know Yankees’ top pick James Kaprielian appeared first on The LoHud Yankees Blog.
