Padres 5, Phillies 4: Little Ninja Comes Up Big

Ian Kennedy had a decent start, but for a while there it looked like it would all be for naught. But little Alexi Amarista came up big in the sixth inning to guarantee the Padres a series split against the Phillies. Cory Spangenberg got the game started nicely with a leadoff triple. Will Venable brought him home immediately with a single to right. An error on a pickoff attempt sent Will all the way to third, allowing him to score easily on a ground out by Yasmani Grandal. Domonic Brown got one of those runs back for the Phils in the top of the second by taking Kennedy deep to right...

Ian Kennedy looks to bounce back against Phillies

Ian Kennedy looks to bounce back against Phillies

Andrew Cashner pitched a pretty good game last night. If Ian Kennedy can be even a fraction as good tonight in game 2 against the Phillies, our Padres can clinch at least a series split and continue their quest for a perfect final homestand. Ian Kennedy looks to rebound from back-to-back losses and get a winning streak going against a team that's been especially tough to beat at Petco Park in recent history. Kennedy has already been on the losing end against them once this season. Back in June he allowed five runs on five hits in seven innings for his seventh loss of the season. His 12th...

Padres send Ian Kennedy to close out season series against Dodgers

Our Padres snapped a six-game losing streak last night with a solid backing for starter Andrew Cashner. They'll go for more of the same tonight as they try to win the series at Dodger Stadium. Ian Kennedy gets the ball for our Friars in the finale, looking to beat the Dodgers for his first time in nine tries. His last win over the NL West rival came almost exactly two years ago, on September 11, 2012, when he was a member of the Diamondbacks. Since then he's gone 0-4 with a 4.19 ERA in eight starts against them. That includes five outings this year alone - more than he's faced any other...

Diamondbacks 5, Padres 1: No Happy Flight For Friars

Well, Ian Kennedy was not good tonight. He allowed 4 runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings. Diamondbacks starter Randall Delgado? 5 innings, 2 hits. The entire Arizona pitching staff only allowed one more hit in 9 innings than the San Diego bullpen did in 3.2. Things went downhill almost immediately, with Kennedy giving up 3 runs in the second. Aaron Hill led off the inning with a single, advancing to third on a double by A.J. Pollock. Didi Gregorius brought Hill home with a high chopper down the third base line. Racing to beat the speedy Gregorius, Cory Spangenberg, trying in vain to catch the...

Padres 2, Dodgers 1: Walkin' It Off Again

Padres 2, Dodgers 1: Walkin' It Off Again

Ian Kennedy turned in a commanding start tonight, but that's only half the story. On most nights, Kennedy's line would have practically guaranteed a win. In 7 innings, the starter allowed just 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 8. But tonight he was opposed by the equally stingy Greinke, who yielded a sole run on 4 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. For the second night in a row, the southern California rivals made it a battle of the bullpens. Kennedy's first few innings were stunning. He retired the side in the first on just 9 pitches. He followed that up by striking out the side...

Game 136 Thread: Aug. 30 @ Padres, 5.40p

Zack Greinke (13-8, 2.79) vs. Ian Kennedy (10-11, 3.75) How hard can it be to beat these Pods? The Gnats are breathing down our necks and we can't seem to put this away. September call-ups should help, but that still won't solve a problem like Correia. Or Carmona. Here's hoping Ryu isn't still ass-hurt and that we can count on Hanley to play at least four innings in a row without pulling something (him, not us). The first thought I had this morning when I woke up was "It just doesn't seem like this (Dodger) team has that killer instinct. Prove me wrong, guys, but it seems like you're all on...

Ian Kennedy takes on Zack Greinke in game two of three at Petco Park

It's been two seasons since Ian Kennedy has beaten the Dodgers. He'll get the chance to end that streak today as our Padres play game 2 against the NL West rivals and try to clinch the series after walking off in last night's 12-inning series opener. Kennedy is 0-4 with a 5.53 ERA in his last seven starts against L.A., including an 0-2 record and 4.70 ERA through his first four outings against them this year. The most recent of those appearances came on August 19th when he yielded six runs (five earned) on seven hits in five innings of work. He was better his next time out, getting the win...

Ian Kennedy looks to bounce back against former team to help Padres avoid sweep

A couple of incredibly frustrating losses have our Padres hoping to salvage a win and avoid a sweep at Chase Field this afternoon. Ian Kennedy will take the mound against his former team this afternoon to try to help our Friars avoid their fourth straight loss and make it a happy flight back home. Kennedy is 1-1 with a 6.06 ERA in three starts against Arizona since he was traded to SD over a year ago. Only one of those starts took place at Chase Field, where he surrendered six runs on six hours and five walks while lasting just 4 1/3 innings. The right had been pitching well since...

Ian Kennedy kicks off series in L.A. against former Friar Kevin Correia

After dropping three of four in St. Louis and then taking Monday off, our Padres continue their road trip tonight back in Southern California with a three-game set at Dodger Stadium. On the mound for San Diego will be Ian Kennedy, coming off his first August win. He gave up three earned runs on six hits (including a home run) and two walks, but struck out eight batters along the way. Tonight's outing will be his fourth against the Dodgers this season. He struggled in his first two, allowing a combined eight runs through ten innings of work, but he was spectacular in his most recent matchup...
