Game 9 Preview: 04/14 Padres vs. Diamondbacks

It wasn't exactly a happy homecoming last week for Ian Kennedy when he made his 2015 debut. In the third inning of Thursday night's home opener, Kennedy suffered a hamstring injury that took him out of the game and put him on the disabled list, making him miss tonight's matchup against his former team. But his injury became Odrisamer Despaigne's opportunity. Despaigne lost the Padres' 5th starter competition coming out of Spring Training and started his season in the bullpen. But when Kennedy left the game on Thursday, Despaigne took over and dominated for 4 2/3 innings in relief. He...

Padres News: 2015 Home Opener Recap

The San Diego Padres opened their first home series against the defending World Series Champion San Francisco Giants. Ugh, this is going to be a quick recap. Which is fitting for a 0-1 loss. Ian Kennedy got the start on the mound for the Padres, but in the left after straining his left hamstring in […] Padres News: 2015 Home Opener Recap - Friars on Base - Friars on Base - A San Diego Padres Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Padres 8, Diablos Rojos 0: Friars wow at FanFest

Well, the Padres sure put on a show today. Over 20,000 fans went down to Petco Park for FanFest, and they were treated to an exhibition against Los Diablos Rojos. Ian Kennedy led an impressive pitching staff to a 2-hit shutout. Los Diablos didn't even pick up a hit until the fifth inning. Kennedy worked quick today. In his three innings of work, he allowed just one walk and struck out three. Seven other pitchers picked up the final six innings, giving up two hits and a walk. Their out pitches were working, too, racking up 6 Ks. Meanwhile, A.J. Preller's new-look outfield was totally unfazed...

04/04 Exhibition game thread: Padres vs. Los Diablos Rojos del Mexico

If you're like me and couldn't make it to Padres FanFest today, at least you can still watch or listen to the game. For their final exhibition game, the Padres are back home at Petco Park taking on Los Diablos Rojos del Mexico. Ian Kennedy takes the hill for the Padres and will face a Diablos Rojos lineup featuring former Friar Ruben Rivera. Spring Training Game Thread: 03/31 Padres vs. Royals

Following another solid win, the Padres are back home tonight to host the Royals at Peoria Sports Complex. Ian Kennedy dominated in his final Spring outing yesterday, throwing six innings of shutout ball, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out seven. Tonight Brandon Morrow gets the ball against Kansas City. He'll be making his first appearance for the Padres since aggravating a blister on his throwing hand on March 21st. Morrow is still trying to make his case for the team's fifth starting job, with his biggest contender being Odrisamer Despaigne. However many believe Morrow to...

SD 6, CIN 3: More scoreless outings, More home runs

At this point it's routine. Ian Kennedy put in his six scoreless innings, and there was plenty of hitting and scoring in the form of home runs. The number four starter spot at this point is locked in for Ian Kennedy. This spring training he hasn't been putting up big headlining numbers, but instead has been using this time to specifically develop his pitches. Today his offspeed-heavy performance allowed him to go the six-inning distance that James Shields, Tyson Ross, and Andrew Cashner have all pulled off. Kennedy's day saw seven strikeouts and only six damage-less hits, and the guy is...

Spring Training Game Thread: 03/30 Padres @ Reds

Wil Myers and Matt Kemp both homered while Andrew Cashner put up a strong performance in the Padres' 8-5 winover the Mariners yesterday afternoon. Today, it'll be Ian Kennedy making the start on the mound for the Friars as they hit the road to Goodyear to take on the Reds at 1:05 pm PT. This will be Kennedy's last appearance before the regular season, when he's expected to take up the 4th starting spot in the rotation. His most recent Cactus League start was ten days ago, on March 20th.  He gave up just one run, unearned, in four innings of work against the Royals. He also pitched four...
