Padres 2, Dodgers 1: Walkin' It Off Again

Padres 2, Dodgers 1: Walkin' It Off Again

Ian Kennedy turned in a commanding start tonight, but that's only half the story. On most nights, Kennedy's line would have practically guaranteed a win. In 7 innings, the starter allowed just 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 8. But tonight he was opposed by the equally stingy Greinke, who yielded a sole run on 4 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. For the second night in a row, the southern California rivals made it a battle of the bullpens. Kennedy's first few innings were stunning. He retired the side in the first on just 9 pitches. He followed that up by striking out the side...

Game 136 Thread: Aug. 30 @ Padres, 5.40p

Zack Greinke (13-8, 2.79) vs. Ian Kennedy (10-11, 3.75) How hard can it be to beat these Pods? The Gnats are breathing down our necks and we can't seem to put this away. September call-ups should help, but that still won't solve a problem like Correia. Or Carmona. Here's hoping Ryu isn't still ass-hurt and that we can count on Hanley to play at least four innings in a row without pulling something (him, not us). The first thought I had this morning when I woke up was "It just doesn't seem like this (Dodger) team has that killer instinct. Prove me wrong, guys, but it seems like you're all on...

Ian Kennedy takes on Zack Greinke in game two of three at Petco Park

It's been two seasons since Ian Kennedy has beaten the Dodgers. He'll get the chance to end that streak today as our Padres play game 2 against the NL West rivals and try to clinch the series after walking off in last night's 12-inning series opener. Kennedy is 0-4 with a 5.53 ERA in his last seven starts against L.A., including an 0-2 record and 4.70 ERA through his first four outings against them this year. The most recent of those appearances came on August 19th when he yielded six runs (five earned) on seven hits in five innings of work. He was better his next time out, getting the win...

Ian Kennedy looks to bounce back against former team to help Padres avoid sweep

A couple of incredibly frustrating losses have our Padres hoping to salvage a win and avoid a sweep at Chase Field this afternoon. Ian Kennedy will take the mound against his former team this afternoon to try to help our Friars avoid their fourth straight loss and make it a happy flight back home. Kennedy is 1-1 with a 6.06 ERA in three starts against Arizona since he was traded to SD over a year ago. Only one of those starts took place at Chase Field, where he surrendered six runs on six hours and five walks while lasting just 4 1/3 innings. The right had been pitching well since...

Ian Kennedy kicks off series in L.A. against former Friar Kevin Correia

After dropping three of four in St. Louis and then taking Monday off, our Padres continue their road trip tonight back in Southern California with a three-game set at Dodger Stadium. On the mound for San Diego will be Ian Kennedy, coming off his first August win. He gave up three earned runs on six hits (including a home run) and two walks, but struck out eight batters along the way. Tonight's outing will be his fourth against the Dodgers this season. He struggled in his first two, allowing a combined eight runs through ten innings of work, but he was spectacular in his most recent matchup...

Ian Kennedy, Padres Look For Home Sweep Of Rockies In Finale

How frustrating is it for San Diego Padres’ fans to think about what this season could’ve been? The Padres, who are playing some of the best ball in all of the big leagues, dug themselves such a deep hole in the first half, that the team’s resurgence during the second half, has raised some eyebrows […] Ian Kennedy, Padres Look For Home Sweep Of Rockies In Finale - Friars on Base - Friars on Base - A San Diego Padres Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Ian Kennedy looks to clean up as Padres go for the sweep against the Rockies

Our Padres wrap up their quick three-game series and homestand against the Rockies this afternoon before taking off on the road again for the next 11 days. They've already locked up the series win with exciting victories the past two nights, so today they go for the sweep against the NL West foes and inch even closer to that second Wild Card spot. For the series finale, it'll be Ian Kennedy on the mound, looking for his first win in three tries. The right-hander went 3-0 in July and put together some of his best pitching performances of the season. But since the beginning of August he's...

Padres tag Ian Kennedy to kick off series against Pirates

Padres tag Ian Kennedy to kick off series against Pirates

After the off day yesterday, our Padres are ready to get back to baseball as they continue their road trip in Pittsburgh. The Pirates have kept themselves in the thick of the division race with some great pitching, but our boys will try to make things harder for them over this three-game set. Ian Kennedy will get the party started this afternoon when he toes the rubber for the series opener. Just over two months ago he earned a victory over the Pirates, keeping them to two runs in six innings of work while fanning seven. Prior to that, he didn't have so much luck career-wise against...

Padres Were Right To Keep Kennedy and Benoit

In the Padres state of transition, they were still managed to jettison players like Chase Headley, Huston Street and Chris Denorfia out for players they can use right now and in the future.  The two big guys they managed to hang onto were Ian Kennedy and Joaquin Benoit. And you know what? They were right […] Padres Were Right To Keep Kennedy and Benoit - Friars on Base - Friars on Base - A San Diego Padres Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Padres 3, Braves 2: Will Walks Off

Padres 3, Braves 2: Will Walks Off

Well, that game was a marathon. Thirteen pitchers took the mound over four and a half hours. Ian Kennedy had a weird night. He only allowed a pair of hits while striking out seven, but he also walked five in his five innings toeing the rubber. That very first walk was what got him into trouble. IPK served it up to B.J. Upton to start the game. A ground out by Tommy La Stella moved Upton to second, and Freddie Freeman got the first of those two hits to bring the run home. After that, it was shutdown city for Ian. He was still on the hook for the loss though, with Ervin Santana shutting down...
