Ian Kennedy: Series MVP For The Final Home Series at Petco In 2015

Dominated the Brewers in the final game of the series. The final series at Petco Park in 2015. Bad first 2 games, nice last one. And that's good. No better way to send your fans home for the last time than to do it with a win. In the last series, Robbie Erlin was the Series MVP with 83% of the vote after his dominant start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In the series against the Milwaukee Brewers, another pitcher dominated his way to a Series MVP. Batters Game 1 Game 2 Game...

SD 4, COL 7: Padres pitching problems persist

Almost every arm for the Friars gave up a run today. It's tough bouncing back from an early deficit. It's even more tough when that deficit widens as you try to climb above it. Tonight, the Padres lineup faced that exact problem. In an attempt to earn just the 70th win of the season, the Friars didn't have a team-effort going for the first game of the final series against Colorado and on the road. Ian Kennedy didn't have very good luck starting things out. By the end of 6 innings he allowed 3 earned runs in the bottom of the second and an unearned run in the bottom of the 3rd. He closed out...

Game 148 Preview: 09/18 Padres @ Rockies

Tonight the Padres begin their final series against the Rockies in 2015. After winning the series against the Diamondbacks and then taking the day off yesterday, the Padres will wrap up their second to last road trip of the season with a series in Colorado starting tonight. Ian Kennedy will take the hill opposite fellow right-hander Chad Bettis in the opener of the three-game set. Kennedy is coming off one of his worst starts of the season. He only lasted 4 2/3 innings at AT&T Park against the Giants, giving up seven runs (all earned) on seven hits and three walks. He is 0-3 in his last...

How current Rockies batters have fared against Ian Kennedy

Ian Kennedy is scheduled to start for the Padres this evening against the division rival Rockies, so it seemed like a good idea to see how he's done in the past against position players on their active roster, with opposing starter Chad Bettis (no relation to Jerome) thrown in for good measure. You'll notice that old friend Nick Hundley is not included, as he was recently placed on the 60-day DL; he left the game the Sunday before last with a stiff neck that was later diagnosed as a cervical sprain. I've had one of those before and it's no joke (well, other than me saying to the doctor "I...

Game 143 Preview: 09/12 Padres @ Giants

The Padres are already a game down in their three-game set against the Giants, so this is a MWG just for morale purposes. Ian Kennedy will take his 8-13 record and 4.99 ERA to the hill, opposing superstar Madison Bumgarner who is 17-7 with a 3.05 mark. Good thing they don't play 'em on paper, right? Bumgarner is 7-5 with a 3.49 ERA over 21 career games against San Diego. He's 1-1 with a 3.57 ERA against the Padres this season; his most recent appearance was a no-decision on July 23, in which he pitched 7.1 innings and allowed just five hits and a walk. Ian Kennedy has a stellar 11-5 record,...

Labor Day losing, Padres fall to Rockies 6-4

The Padres labored to come back from a 6-2 deficit, but fell a couple runs short. In a few of Ian Kennedy's recent starts he has flirted with disaster and in a couple he has been quite good. Today it was closer to the former, but his flirtatious ways were too inviting and the Rockies took advantage. His arsenal seemed to alternate between dynamite and pop gun. He managed to whiff 9 Colorado hitter, but also allowed them to scatter 7 hits, many of which were hit hard, and score 6 runs. On paper, Rockies starter Kyle Kendrick and his ERA north of 6 should have been up to the task of letting...
