Red Sox vs. Blue Jays lineup: Batting order shuffled, Bogaerts sits for Brian Johnson

Last year’s surprising 20-game winner J.A. Happ goes for Toronto. The Red Sox (52-42) look to rebound after losing a game to Steve Friggin’ Pearce when they face “possible trade bait” J.A. Happ (3.54 ERA) and the Blue Jays (43-49) tonight at Fenway Park (7:10 p.m., NESN). And after flailing at the plate for a while, the lineup has (finally) been shifted around. So have the fielders. Hanley Ramirez is at first base and batting fourth. Strap in! Xander Bogaerts was set to bat sixth, but was scratched. He’s replaced by Deven Marrero, who hits eighth, while Brock Holt \o/ bats ninth....

NL Central: Brewers looking at J.A. Happ

Check out what’s going on in the National League Central. The Brewers are reportedly interested in Blue Jay’s pitcher, J.A Happ. The lefty would provide a strong veteran presence to the back end of Milwaukee’s rotation. So far in 2017 he’s posted a 3.54 ERA, allowing 24 runs and striking out 60 over 61 innings pitched. However, as much as the Brewers are into the deal, Toronto isn’t so swayed to move Happ. Although it’s highly unlikely, stranger things have happened in baseball. Here’s what other news is happening across the National League Central: The Pirates have...

MLB trade rumors: Blue Jays ‘highly unlikely’ to trade J.A. Happ despite Brewers’ interest

The lefty is likely to stay in Toronto past the deadline as the Jays look to contend next season. The Blue Jays are “highly unlikely” to trade left-hander J.A. Happ despite interest from the Brewers and others, as FOX’s Ken Rosenthal reports. Toronto would likely to hang on to Happ as they look to contend next season. Milwaukee is searching for controllable starting pitching, most notably being linked to Athletics right-hander Sonny Gray in recent days. Happ, who is earning $13 million this year and will earn an additional $13 million next year, has been mentioned in some rumors as it...

Blue Jays: A tribute to Justin Smoak, an All-Star

The Toronto Blue Jays seem to have had three straight seasons of feel good stories from one of their players. In 2015 it was the ascension of Chris Colabello and Marco Estrada. 2016 was J.A. Happ silencing his critics and haters for being signed instead of re-signing David Price. Through the season’s first half, Justin […] Blue Jays: A tribute to Justin Smoak, an All-Star - Jays Journal - Jays Journal - A Toronto Blue Jays Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Jays get a beat down by Astros

Astros I don’t know. Many, many runs. Low triple digits I think. Blue Jays 1 So that was a mess. Just an ugly game in all ways. I didn’t think J.A. Happ pitched all that badly. He gave up 3 home runs, but 2 of them looked like good pitches. He pitched 4 innings, allowed 7 hits, 6 runs, just 2 earned, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts. The 4 unearned runs came after a throwing error by Josh Donaldson. If you want a handy example of why errors are a misleading stat, just watch Josh’s error in the second inning. Josh made a great diving stop, I’m not sure how many 3Bs make that play, gets up and...

Happ-y days as Blue Jays declare independence from 5 game losing streak

Happ-y days as Blue Jays declare independence from 5 game losing streak

Blue Jays 4 Yankees 1 To quote the manager: John Gibbons: "We needed that." — Arash Madani (@ArashMadani) July 4, 2017 J.A. Happ came up big for the Blue Jays on Independence Day, going six innings to halt a five game losing streak, all within the division, and against the despised Yankees at that. Happ cruised through the first three innings, allowing just a two out hit in the first to Gary Sanchez, sandwiched around a pair of swinging strikeouts. Other that that, it was weak or routine contact, and Happ looked like he might go 7 or 8 innings. Alas, the Yankees are too good an...
