Mets Morning News: The Rookies go yard, but Mets fall to Yankees

Your Wednesday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet The Mets Despite late comeback heroics from Amed Rosario, the Mets lost the second game of the Subway Series, 5-4. Jacob deGrom had the start and had a less than stellar outing, allowing five runs over seven and a third innings. Dominic Smith had his first career home run, a two run shot in the seventh. Never to be outdone, Amed Rosario had a two run homer against Aroldis Chapman in the ninth, but was able to secure the save and send the series back to Flushing. Mets vs. Yankees Recap: Take another little piece of my heart now, baby

Mets vs. Yankees Recap: Take another little piece of my heart now, baby

At least the kids are showing some promise. If this were 2014, and Rafael Montero and Jacob deGrom both put up these starts, it would appear Montero would be the one with the most upside. He had one bad inning against the Yankees, whereas deGrom looked uncomfortable all night and had his worst outing in a long while against the crosstown rivals. Of course 2014 is in the rearview mirror, and both Montero and deGrom have a body of work that speaks for itself. Hopefully this performance was just an aberration for deGrom and that he bounces back quickly. He pitched 7.1 innings,...

Final Score: Yankees 5, Mets 4-Don’t go breaking my heart

Jacob deGrom struggled against the Bronx Bombers. The long ball was again the name of the game in the Mets’ 5-4 loss against their crosstown rivals. Jacob deGrom was not sharp and gave up blasts to Jacoby Ellsbury and Gary Sanchez to put the Yankees ahead. He pitched into the eighth and gave up an additional run on a Sanchez sac fly before his night was done. Sonny Gray made his Yankee Stadium debut and looked dominant for almost seven innings, but he was unable complete the seventh. After he issued a walk to Wilmer Flores, Dominic Smith took Gray to the opposite field for his first major...

Mets Morning News: deGrom’s hummin’, Dom’s comin’

Your Friday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets The Mets battered the Phillies on Thursday night for a 10-0 victory. Wilmer Flores kicked things off with a three-run bomb in the opening frame, one of his three hits on the night. Neil Walker had four knocks, and Michael Conforto, hitting cleanup in light of the departure of Jay Bruce, hit an opposite-field three-run home run. The only damage sustained by starter Jacob deGrom was of the literal sort—the lanky, long-locked hurler was struck in his throwing arm by a line drive in the seventh inning. He...

Mets vs. Phillies Recap: deGrom and some bombs

Mets vs. Phillies Recap: deGrom and some bombs

A rare happy recap! Even if the Mets are bad, they’re not as bad as the Phillies, a fact reinforced by the 10-0 thrashing the Mets put on Thursday night. Jacob deGrom righted the ship with a fantastic outing, and the offense exploded to support their ace. Neil Walker broke out of his post-DL malaise, recording four hits with a home run, while Wilmer Flores finished a triple shy of the cycle. Michael Conforto and Curtis Granderson also went deep in the win. Wilmer Flores got the fireworks started early. Yoenis Cespedes doubled and Michael Conforto walked with two outs in...
