2017 Mets Season Review: Jacob deGrom survived and thrived this season

2017 Mets Season Review: Jacob deGrom survived and thrived this season

deGrom solidified his ace status with another good season. In his time with the Mets, Jacob deGrom has never been named the Opening Day starter. Those around him seem to steal the spotlight, but when the season comes to an end, deGrom’s body of work speaks for itself. deGrom was the unquestioned ace of this staff in a season, partly by default, but even if all the starters remained healthy, the lanky righty ranked among the best in the league. He reached the 200-inning plateau and ended the season with a 15-10 record. He finished 10th in the league in ERA and was second in total...

Mets Morning News: Jacob deGrom is hair today, gone tomorrow

Your Tuesday morning dose of Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets The Mets had better hope that Jacob deGrom’s pitching skills don’t have the same source as Samson’s strength, because his luscious locks are gone. Alex Cora and Bob Geren would appear to be the top two men the Mets want to speak with about their managerial vacancy. Sandy Alderson has his work cut out for him this offseason. Around the NL East The Braves actually have 99 problems, even though John Coppolella’s no longer one. The Marlins sale finally appears to have closed. Who will be the longest-tenured...

Mets vs. Phillies Recap: Time to wake up Green Day

Mets vs. Phillies Recap: Time to wake up Green Day

September ended with a Mets victory. It was far less dramatic, and the circumstances have certainly changed, but Asdrubal Cabrera hit another three-run home run in the 11th inning to give the Mets a 7-4 victory over the Phillies. Seth Lugo got the start in place of the ill Jacob deGrom and was on a pitch count. He got into trouble early but worked out of it in the first. However, he continued to fall behind Phillies batters but he did not walk any of them. The trouble came in the second inning when Maikel Franco blasted a home run to left, and Cesar Hernandez got a hit Jose...

Mets Morning News: Nationals take series, Mets help hurricane victims in Puerto Rico

Your Monday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets Jacob deGrom was excellent once again but he was felled by a Trea Turner home run. He also allowed an unearned run to score, but he struck out eleven and reached the 200 inning plateau he was striving for. Brandon Nimmo took Max Scherzer deep and Jose Reyes helped cut into the lead late but since it is Sunday that is as close as they would come. Mets vs. Nationals Recap: deGrom and Scherzer duel, but bats can’t beat the Nats

Mets vs. Nationals Recap: deGrom and Scherzer duel, but bats can’t beat the Nats

The Mets rallied late, but couldn’t best Scherzer. Despite the predictions, the world did not end today. This means that as a whole, humanity is spared and will continue to prosper until the next threat approaches. It also means that the Mets had to play their final season series game against the Nationals. So, actually, its kind of a draw. A marquee pitching matchup highlighted the Sunday rubber game, as Jacob deGrom faced off against Max Scherzer. deGrom fanned Trea Turner and Alejandro de Aza to open up the first frame, then allowed a triple to Daniel Murphy. Murphy sent a well-hit...

Final Score: Nationals 3, Mets 2— Too little, way too late

Final Score: Nationals 3, Mets 2— Too little, way too late

deGrom dealed, but the bats couldn’t stop the Nats. The season has changed, the Mets did not turn over a new leaf Sunday, falling 3-1 to the Washington Nationals. Jacob deGrom continued to be the lone bright spot in the Mets’ rotation, striking out 11 batters over six innings. deGrom allowed three runs total—two earned on a home run from Trea Turner in the top of the third inning. In the fifth inning, an errant throw from Travis d’Arnaud moved Michael Taylor to third base, who was then plated by Jose Lobaton for the unearned run. The Mets simply couldn’t muster much offensively...

Max Scherzer struck out 10 in six innings, and the Nationals took the series finale and 2 of 3 from the Mets in Citi Field with a 3-2 win. Max Scherzer gave up a run in the bottom of the first, on a no-doubter of a home run by Brandon Nimmo, then held the New York Mets off the board through six innings as Washington rallied to take a 3-1 lead. Scherzer left the game after completing his six innings of work on the mound, and the Nationals’ bullpen gave up a run, but preserved the lead, in what ended up a 3-2 win. Trea Turner took Jacob deGrom deep in the third inning for a two-run home...
