Cubs pitchers, opponents react to Lester signing

SAN DIEGO – New Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon likened acquiring pitcher Jon Lester to “winning the lottery.” The left-hander's new teammates are feeling nearly the same way. “I’m giddy to get going right now,” pitcher Jake Arrieta said Wednesday by phone. Arrieta was the Cubs' de facto ace after they unloaded Jeff Samardzija in July, but he has no problem being a No. 2 pitcher. Arrieta and Lester faced off when both were in the American League East, Arrieta with the Baltimore Orioles and Lester with the Boston Red Sox.
