SAN DIEGO _ Cardinals outfielder Jason Heyward, who suffered a tight left hamstring on Monday night, had presumed he was going to be able to start Friday night against the San Diego Padres. Bu…

Cardinals v Giants: Bats quiet, can't solve Giants pitching in 2-0 loss.

meh Tonight's starting pitchers: Lance Lynn (2.95, ERA, 3.10 FIP, 3.53 xFIP) and Ryan Vogelsong (4.15 ERA, 4.76 FIP, 4.50 xFIP). Vogelsong was announced as tonight's starter after last night's game as Bruce Bochy and the Giants elected to delay new Gigante Mike Leake's return from the disabled list. Also not starting the game tonight were Hunter Pence, who is having oblique trouble, Jason Heyward, nursing a hopefully minor hamstring tweak, and Peter Bourjos, because who the heck knows why. When last we saw* Lance Lynn he was being pummeled to the tune of 6 hits and 7 runs (3 earned)...

Cardinals vs Giants recap: Molina goes yard in 2-1 win

Wacha pitches seven strong innings in Grichuk-less, Heyward-less victory. Before this game even started, it was a wild one, and then it started and wild stuff sort of kept happening. The Cardinals won, it's important to say right away. But look at this craziness. Before the game came this news: #STLCards place OF Randal Grichuk (right elbow strain) on 15-day DL. Team recalls OF Tommy Pham from Memphis (AAA)— St. Louis Cardinals (@Cardinals) August 17, 2015 Then early in the game came this news: Jason Heyward left the game in the 3rd inning with tightness in his left hamstring.— St....

Heyward, Siegrist, and reverse platoon splits

Is Kevin Siegrist really better against right-handed batters? Has Jason Heyward finally figured out how to hit left-handed pitching? In recent weeks, I've been hearing a lot of talk on Cardinals broadcasts about platoon splits. Two players who have been particularly interesting this season in that regard are Kevin Siegrist and Jason Heyward, who have managed to produce platoon splits that are the opposite of what would be expected. Siegrist has been remarkably better against at retiring right-handed hitters this season, and Heyward has been slightly better against left-handed pitching. Here...

Cardinals' last chance to sign Jason Heyward before free agency

The Cardinals traded for Jason Heyward with an eye on extending him and hoping he would be an impact player for the Cardinals. Heyward has delivered on his end and the two parties are left with little time to reach an extension before he hits the open market this winter. A little over eight months ago, the Cardinals made the somewhat drastic, somewhat risky decision to move Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins to obtain a potential franchise player in Jason Heyward. A month into the season, Heyward had yet to make an impact, and in the weeks and months following, all mentions of Heyward's stat...
