Harvey 'definitely' believed no-hitter doable

Mets Blog | ESPN New York — ATLANTA -- Matt Harvey believed he might be on track for the second no-hitter in franchise history. That is, until Jason Heyward produced an infield single up the first-base line to lead off the seventh inning. Matt Harvey #33 SPNew York Mets 2013 STATS GM15 W6 L1 BB23 K115 ERA2.16 After the game, though, Harvey was just thankful the Mets had held on for a 4-3 win against the Atlanta Braves. And he was upset at himself for taking the mound for the eighth inning.

Padres fan dives into shrubbery of Petco Park allegedly after a home run ball.

Gaslamp Ball — Your browser does not support iframes. San Diego Padres fans are the best. This guy does a Superman: Man of Steel™ dive into the shrubbery in the outfield of Petco Park. He's allegedly trying to claim Jason Heyward's home run ball, but something about his ball gathering technique tells me that that's not the case. I bet he was eying that bush all night, thinking "How am I gonna get into that?" Then the opportunity arose. It's happened to me plenty of times. Got to get into that bush. Here's the GIF: via drawntomlb.com And here's a pretty funny exchange about the GIF. Our resident...

Braves 7 Bucs 2

Braves Journal — ESPN Box One of baseball’s oldest clichés is “Get ‘em on, Get ‘em over, Get ‘em in.” Well tonight the Braves were getting guys on and then just hitting two run homers. Jason Heyward's hot streak legit

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Clearly, Jason Heyward is hot right now. Not only did the Braves outfielder homer twice Monday, but he has multiple hits in six of his last eight games, batting .412 (14 for 34) during that stretch. Because his overall numbers are still miserable, though, you might be wondering if now is the time to sell him and be done with it. Judging by some of the numbers within the numbers, I say what he's doing now is less a hot streak than a course correction. So far this year, his line-drive rate of 21.4 percent is the highest of his career, and an improved line-drive rate was one of the biggest reason...

Touch of Class from Jason Heyward

Sons of Steve Garvey — At the depth of our pain of being burned by HRs the past two games, the best we can do is look for little bits of sunshine in otherwise dark days. Here's something you don't see a lot these days in sport, at least during a game. After Matt Kemp robbed Jason Heyward of what looked to be a HR with an amazing, well-timed catch, Heyward rounded second base and looked to Kemp in the outfield to pay his sportsmanlike respect for the feat. Hat tip to Kemp for the web gem catch, and to Heyward for his class. Now, back to being surly and feeling the hate.
