Sox catching up behind plate

Boston Herald — A year ago in spring training, Jason Varitek was tearing up at his JetBlue Park retirement ceremony. Both he and the Red Sox were confronting the reality that for the first time in 16 years, Varitek would not be catching for the team. And even though Varitek’s prime was several years earlier, the captain left behind a legacy that most did not see anyone being able to replicate any time soon.

Varitek enjoying new learning experience

Red Sox Blog | Providence Journal — By Tim BrittonFORT MYERS, Fla. -- Jason Varitek's sat in front of a cluster of media many times before. He's back in Red Sox camp as a special assistant to general manager Ben Cherington -- what he hopes is the next step in a long career in the game. The key word from Varitek on Wednesday was learning.
