2017 National League Championship Series Game 5 preview: Cubs vs. Dodgers, Thursday 10/19, 7 p.m. CT

The Cubs go for their second straight win over the Dodgers. It’s another beautiful day in Chicago, sunny, light winds, temperatures near 70, dropping into the 60s at game time, perfectly gorgeous for late October. I’d say it’s a great day for the Cubs to win another baseball game. Notes for Game 5: Javier Baez became the fifth Cub to have a multi-homer game in the postseason with his two-homer game in Game 4. The others: Gary Matthews, Game 1, 1984 NLCS, Eric Karros, Game 4, 2003 NLDS, Alex Gonzalez, Game 3, 2003 NLCS, and Aramis Ramirez, Game 3, 2003 NLCS. With Jake Arrieta’s...

One Willson Contreras moonshot and two Javier Baez bombs were ridden to victory on the arms of Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis. Al will tell you all about it in his recap. Josh’s rapid recap is here. Baez breaks out of funk in dramatic fashion

Javier Baez's swing looped from the bottom of the strike zone to the top of it, his right hand leaving his bat as it whooshed above his shoulder. Baez watched his first home run of Game 4 of the National League Championship Series fly into the night on Wednesday, as aware as anyone of its personal significance.

Chicago Cubs Rapid Recap: Cubs 3, Dodgers 2

Jake Arrieta, Javier Baez and Wade Davis combine to keep the Cubs season alive. Do not go gentle into that good night, . . .Rage, rage against the dying of the light.—Dylan Thomas. The Cubs could have played their last game of the season tonight but they didn’t, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 in game four of the National League Championship Series. The Cubs still trail the best-of-seven series 3 games to 1, but as long as there is life there is hope, and the Cubs are still alive. They came back last year down 3 games to 1 with the final two games on the road. Speaking of not...

Cub Tracks warms up

Eudaimonia, social media doesn’t count, fidget spinners in space, and other bullets Cub Tracks wanted to get even with the Dodgers. It didn’t happen. Instead, the Cubs look to win a game tonight and even up tomorrow. They can do it, too. I still believe, and will keep believing until it’s all over. I understood perfectly when John Lackey was brought in. I even agreed with the move, cuz I knew it was inevitable. John’s a starter, and was there to log some innings, just in case. To me, the problem was not scoring Javier Baez from third with one out. I worried about that for the rest...

Maddon: 'Keep believing' in Cubs' comeback

The Cubs are two games away from being stopped short in defense of their World Series championship, and their right-handed-hitting second baseman, Javier Baez, is hitless in 19 at-bats in the postseason. They have three other options at the position, all of whom would hit left-handed against Dodgers right-hander Yu Darvish on Tuesday.
