Daily Red Sox Links: J.D. Martinez’s recent tear and the Oakland A’s

Daily Red Sox Links: J.D. Martinez’s recent tear and the Oakland A’s

J.D. Martinez is hitting pitches hard and enjoying a blistering stretch of baseball. He will try to continue the run against a team that has had his number in the past. Plus Drew Pomeranz returns, Xander Bogaerts progresses and David Price talks ink. When you are the biggest addition to the roster during a Red Sox offseason, you are always going to face unfair expectations. If you stumble even a bit, you might be labeled as a failure and spend weeks, months and even years trying to win back your reputation. We’ve seem some players melt under the pressure and some take off to new heights....

Daily Red Sox Links: Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Rick Porcello

Red Sox 1, Athletics 4: Red Sox lose game and series in frustrating fashion

Red Sox 1, Athletics 4: Red Sox lose game and series in frustrating fashion

Bad hitting and weird managing cost them. The Red Sox have lost their first series of the year and have lost consecutive games for the first time in 2018. This was a frustrating loss, and in many ways a more frustrating loss than Saturday’s no-hitter. The offense was completely shut down by Daniel Mengden, who deserves a lot of credit for his work but also seemed more hittable than the box score would indicate. J.D. Martinez in particular was disappointing as the slugger went 0-4 with three strikeouts. David Price was phenomenal on the mound and you have to feel good about him after this...

Red Sox at A’s lineup: Happy Sale Day! This one’s for 9 in a row

Red Sox at A’s lineup: Happy Sale Day! This one’s for 9 in a row

The Red Sox never lose, so why would tonight be any different? The Red Sox (17-2) look to win their ninth straight game when they face the Oakland A’s (9-11) tonight (9:05 p.m., NESN) behind Chris Sale. About tonight’s game: You can’t predict baseball, but you’d be forgiven if you had doubts about Oakland’s chances tonight. Sale (1-0, 1.23 ERA) is Chris Sale, and while Sean Manaea (2-2, 1.63 ERA) is good, he’s not Chris Sale. The Red Sox have won nine games in a row and the A’s aren’t too good, is what I’m saying. J.D. Martinez is back for the Sox and hot-hitting Mitch...
