Weaver Finding His Groove with 21 Days To Go

The presumed opening day starter for the Angels, Jered Weaver, is getting into the groove. After a lousy start in his last Cactus League outing he tinkered with his mechanics and his outing today bore fruit. His five strikeouts in five innings pitched revealed an athlete at the top of his game - the body is still able to adapt to experimentation and the mind is wise enough to entertain options. Weaver's 5 Ks against the Rangers led the Halos to a 5-3 win over Texas. The Halos scored four runs in the fourth inning as Chris Iannetta hit his first homer of the Spring. Chris was one of two...

Angels' Weaver fixes erratic delivery, remains unconcerned about velocity

Angels' Weaver fixes erratic delivery, remains unconcerned about velocity

TEMPE, Ariz. – Jered Weaver’s average four-seam fastball last season clocked in at under 87 mph, his average two-seamer under 86. So it’s not as though it’s news when the ticker on his velocity hits 85 and stops, as he did in his second...

Thursday Halolinks: Where will Weaver's velocity bottom out?

Sure, he lives on location, but how slow is too slow for Jered Weaver's fastball? Thanks for the kind words about keeping Halolinks personal, I appreciate being part of such a great community.  On that note, today is moving day!  That means I can actually focus more (all?) of my attention on baseball!! In the meantime, here are today's Halolinks: How little is too little?  Stop it, I'm talking about Jered Weaver's velocity.  We all know Weaver gets by locating his pitches instead of blow away the hitter with "electric" stuff, and has done reasonably well, but I wonder...when does his...

Jered Weaver Sloppy in Angels Spring Loss

RE-lax, it is only March! Maybe the Angels should have let Will Ferrell start one day sooner as veteran Jered Weaver was rustier than most of Ferrell's old skits out on the mound Wednesday afternoon. Weaver was charged with two earn runs over three innings pitched. He faced on batter in the fourth, did not get him out and was removed then. He never threw anything faster than 85 MPH and that was his fastball. But don't panic. Weaver is forty pounds heavier this Spring and needs to work on building muscle memory for his infamously complicated pitching mechanics. They say don't panic and half...

Angels blank Rockies behind Jered Weaver

The game: The Angels allowed just four hits on their way winning their second straight game to start their Cactus League schedule, a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies, 3-0, on Friday at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Pitching report: RHP Jered Weaver...

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Mike Scioscia revealed his plans for the Angels rotation for the start of spring training games, and it most likely adds up to Jered Weaver starting on opening day. Weaver starting on opening day would be no surprise, since he's the...
