Phillies' Hellickson frustrates the Marlins

MIAMI - If the Marlins were unconvinced of Jeremy Hellickson's capabilities, the veteran's last 14 innings against them should suffice. Every other team - and there are numerous - in search of an inexpensive, mid-rotation starter will note that Hellickson is pitching his best as the trade deadline nears.

Red Sox Are Still In The Trade Mix For Starter, Reliever

Multiple reports indicate that Dave Dombrowski is not done dealing. The Red Sox honcho is still in the market for another reliever and another bullpen arm. Said ESPN's Jim Bowden, "According to sources, they're not done. The Red Sox continue to work the phones on both another starter and reliever, and with a farm system as deep as theirs, I would expect them to make at least one more trade between now and the deadline." The starter trade targets are likely to be less than elite—think Jeremy Hellickson, (Philadelphia Phillies) Ervin Santana (the visiting Minnesota Twins) or Jimmy Nelson...

Sharp Hellickson strengthens case for trade as Phillies win

This was Game 96 on a balmy summer evening, an otherwise typical night that carried extra meaning for a rebuilding team because Jeremy Hellickson pitched. The mild-mannered Iowan knew the stakes; when he erred in a 4-1 win over Miami, he ripped his red Phillies cap from his head and shouted obscenities into his glove.

Red Sox Scouting Former Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson

Jeremy HellicksonMultiple reports now indicate that the Red Sox are "scouting" Phillies starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson with the interest of trading for him. The former Tampa Bay Ray is 6-6 this season with a 3.92 ERA over 18 starts. The 29-year old right-hander was once a fixture in the Tampa rotation—and had double-digit win seasons in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Over his seven-year career, Hellickson is 55-54 with a 3.94 ERA. He's averaged about seven strikeouts and three walks per nine innings pitched. He would be an OK addition to the Boston rotation—but by no means an elite one.

Red Sox scouting Jeremy Hellickson, Rich Hill

The Red Sox have been busy scouting potential rotation additions. The Red Sox may finally be getting ready to make a move for some rotation help, having been spotted scouting Jeremy Hellickson according to Jon Morosi. They have been spotted at Rich Hill starts as well, with the Athletics clear sellers with one of the best rental options available. This doesn't really feel like news, frankly. It's technically new information, yes, but it's information that could have been predicted by anyone with even a tenuous grasp on Boston's situation this season. They need starting pitching, and Hill...
