Hellickson falters but gets a no-decision - Jeremy Hellickson (S) Tampa Bay Rays

Yankee promises sounding empty

NEW YORK -- Well, at least the Yankees won't have to face Chris Archer this weekend. If there is any positive to the upcoming three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays -- a series that became all the more vital after the Yankees dropped both games in their rain-abbreviated series in Baltimore -- it is that they escape the indignity being stifled once again by a pitcher they have never managed to beat. Instead, they get a chance to restart their stalled offense -- a season-long stall, by the way -- against Alex Cobb, Drew Smyly and Jeremy Hellickson.

Rays Tank: Hellickson in the air; 3,000

Yesterday was the anniversary of this: Apparently Steve Kinsella was there, and the ball sailed over his head. Can you find him in the crowd? Something almost as rare as hitting a home run for your 3,000th hit happened two days ago. Jeremy Hellickson pitched a dominant game. Your browser does not support iframes. What you will notice from the highlights, is the same thing Craig Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus fantasy noticed ($). Small sample size, but Helly is getting even more fly balls than he did before. I think this is a fair trend to keep track of. Jake Odorizzi pitches with the...

TB 7 - OAK 3: Hellickson, Rays offense rise to the challenge of Sonny Gray

Jeremy Hellickson turned in his best performance in more than a year, and the Rays stymied baseball's best starter on baseball's best team, preventing the series sweep in Oakland. After two difficult losses to bear, Jeremy Hellickson put the Rays in a position to succeed early in O.co Stadium. He needed just eight pitches for the first inning, including two line outs (the latter caught by a charging and diving Desmond Jennings), and a strikeout of Josh Donaldson, and continued working efficiently: ten pitches in the second, fourteen in the third. The Rays, facing July pitcher-of-the-month...
