The Rays Tank: Late Inning Drama

The Rays defeated the Royals 4-3 last night in Hellickson's 2014 debut. After an extremely slow beginning to the game, the Rays defeated the Royals 4-3 to even the series, 1-1. Timely runs in the eighth inning would be enough to secure the lead for Tampa Bay, but Jake McGee definitely made things interesting in the ninth by allowing two runs to score. It's Jake McGee, though...Mr. Reliable in the bullpen. McGee ended the game by putting away Omar Infante with a 99 MPH fastball to secure a Rays victory. You can read more about Jeremy Hellickson's 2014 debut in Ian's recap, here. Chris...

[THE HANGOVER] Discussing Jeremy Hellickson’s Return, Brandon Guyer’s Hustle, And Jake McGee The Closer

The GBT – The Good, The Bad and The Telling sandwich, where The Bad is nice and lean and the The Telling is ripe. RAYS 4, Royals 3 (boxscore) THE GOOD: Jeremy Hellickson. It was good to see Hellboy back on the mound and he delivered exactly what we hoped for, […]

Rays vs. Royals, game 2 recap: Rays win, Jeremy Hellickson himself.

Rays vs. Royals, game 2 recap: Rays win, Jeremy Hellickson himself.

Both the good and the bad. There were two things to look for in this game. The first was the outcome. The Rays, believe it or not, aren't quite out of this season yet, and the wins and losses still matter. The Rays won. Good. The second is the process. It was Jeremy Hellickson's first game of the season, after he had offseason surgery to remove loose bodies from his throwing elbow. How would he pitch? Is he the type of midseason addition that can help the Rays compete? Will he raise his value to the point that he can bring the Rays back valuable prospects, this season, the offseason, or the...

Royals strand 11 baserunners in loss to Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Evan Longoria drove in two runs, Jeremy Hellickson went 41/3 innings in his season debut, and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 on Tuesday night. The Rays opened the sixth with three consecutive hits, including a two-run single by Longoria off Jason Vargas (8-4), to take a 2-1 lead. Vargas, who allowed two runs and six hits in 52/3 innings, was coming off seven innings in the Royals’ 4-0 win Wednesday against Minnesota. Hellickson, coming back after arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow in January, gave up one run and six hits. read more

Rays down on the farm July 4: Seitzer does it again

Another two run game for Cameron Seitzer helps Montgomery win a 16 inning game After last night's first inning, the Rays may be happy Jeremy Hellickson's rehab aligns with Erik Bedard's turn in the rotation.  Physically, I would guess he could pitch in the big leagues right now, but if I understand the rehab rules correctly, he'll have a chance to make one more start before he has to be activated or optioned down for more work. I think Princeton might be my favorite box score to check right now.  All of those players are still far away from the big leagues, but there is talent there. ...
