Jesus Guzman hits first homer in grand fashion

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Padres outfielder Jesus Guzman slugged a pinch-hit grand slam during the seventh inning to give San Diego a short-lived lead in an 8-7 loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday night. Guzman substituted for John Baker and tallied his first homer of the season in his 28th game to chase Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson. Home runs crush Jeremy Hellickson

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Rays pitcher Jeremy Hellickson (1-2) surrendered a season-high six runs and six hits over 6 2/3 innings but escaped with a no-decision during Tampa Bay's 8-7 interleague win over San Diego on Saturday night. Hellickson allowed just two runs through the first six innings -- both on a homer by Chase Headley in the first -- before being tagged for five in the seventh, with the heavy damage coming on a grand slam by pinch-hitter Jesus Guzman. The poor frame prevented him from completing seven innings for the first time in his past four starts as his ERA swelled to 5.25. The right-hander struck out...

Rays 8, Padres 7: Padres Take A Trip To The Danger Zone

Gaslamp Ball — Everybody who writes about the Padres really wanted today to be all about Burch Smith. A young guy who throws with power skipping AAA to make his major league debut is great stuff. And it was, for the first inning. Two strikeouts and an easy ground ball had Smith looking good. And then he gave up 6 runs in the second inning. Things turned around in the seventh on a pinch hit grand slam by Jesus Guzman, but the Padres couldn't hold on. Huston Street gave up a 2 out 2 run homer, and that was that. If you're looking for a silver lining to ease the heartache, this is the team's first serie...

Let's go! 3rd Inning In the Dodgers half of the 3rd, Adrian Gonzalez hit a sac fly to score Carl Crawford. Jesus Guzman made an amazing catch reaching over the wall along the 3B line. Rockies 5, Padres 2: Cabrera Screws Up

Gaslamp Ball — The Padres got on the board early, thanks to Everth Cabrera showing off his speed. He reached on an infield single, stole second, and then came home on Jesus Guzman's RBI single. No one else scored until the bottom of the third, when a two out error by Everth Cabrera kept the Rockies alive and three unearned runs crossed the plate. Former rocky Jason Marquis was moving along nicely until the error, but struggled to keep the game close, allowing solo shots to Wilin Rosario and Dexter Fowler in the fourth and fifth. He would toss one more scoreless frame before being replaced by Anthony ...

The rest of the Padres hazed the rookie by leaving him on base. 5th Inning Marquis ...

Wilson picks up first spring win

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Angels starting pitcher C.J. Wilson turned in a solid performance as he picked up his first Cactus League win in Thursday's contest against the Padres. Wilson pitched three innings of work and allowed with a run six hits. He struck out two and did not issue a walk in a 12-3 victory. His only run allowed came in the second inning when he gave up a solo shot to Jesus Guzman. "Even that's something you need to practice," Wilson said. "You have to recover after a home run. You have to fight through a long inning. It's great when you're coasting, but the regular-season won't always go great. You ha...

Outfield Reps & Added Versatility Should Benefit Both Logan Forsythe and the Padres

Chicken Friars — When one thinks of Padres and their Utility players, the names Jesus Guzman and Alexi Amarista immediately come to mind.  Both players however might have some company and increased competition for playing time at various spots around the field in 2013.
