I'm tired of talking about Jesus Montero. One of the most infuriating things as a fan is when you watch a player day after day make mistakes that can be avoided. Mistakes that, with basic mental preparation, should never happen. When Raul Ibanez doesn't get to a ball in left field and boots it, it isn't about a lack of effort or that his head wasn't in the game, he's simply not talented enough as a defender to make that play. The things Jesus Montero does behind the plate don't fall under that definition. I'll choose my words carefully, because it would be presumptuous (and ill-advised...

Michael Saunders is back in the line-up today after getting much needed day off. The rest of the line-up is pretty similar to yesterday. Jesus Montero is back in there after a tough game yesterday. He’s actually caught all but one of Felix Hernandez’s starts this season. The one start that Montero didn’t catch Hernandez he gave up four runs against the White Sox. Is there any meaning to it? No. Your browser does not support iframes. I watched yesterday’s final play with Montero at the plate several times yesterday. Yes, he … Read more »

It’s been almost a year and a half and some 200 big league games since the Seattle Mariners traded young pitching stud Michael Pineda and Class A pitching prospect Jose Campos to the New York Yankees in exchange for their top hitting prospect Jesus Montero and pitcher Hector Noesi. And in that time, neither side could lay claim to victory, nor lament failure. It was a trade for need – hitting for the Mariners and starting pitching for the Yankees. But thus far neither team’s needs have been met. It was a trade that was supposed to help both teams. … Read more »

Mariners manager Eric Wedge has Raul Ibanez back in the line-up after hitting a home run last night. Kelly Shoppach is in tonight, so that means Jesus Montero will catch tomorrow’s day game. Otherwise it’s a pretty standard Mariners line-up. No, I don’t know when Nick Franklin will be called up. 05.11.13 SEA Notes by … Read more »

Jesus Montero didn’t need to spend a lot of words discussing what Felix Hernandez did on the mound. Montero didn’t need make a dissertation about his game-deciding solo home run off of A.J. Burnett in the seventh inning. And he didn’t need to ponder the odd coincidence that he’s hit all three of his home runs in games Hernandez started and he was catching. Nope, Montero summed up the Seattle Mariners’ 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNCPark quite succinctly. “That’s crazy what’s happening,” he said. “He pitches. I hit a homer. He wins. Unbelievable.” There you have it. … Read mo...
