Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher J.J. Putz on road back to mound

Arizona Republic — Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz was happy to get back on the mound and throw his first bullpen session since being placed on the disabled list with a strained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow on May 8, but he's content to take it slow. Especially with teammate Daniel Hudson suffering a re-tear of his UCL earlier this week, undoing a year's worth of rehab coming back from Tommy John surgery.

J.J. Putz ready for rehab assignment

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz will begin his minor-league rehab assignment Thursday at Triple-A Reno, according to FoxSportsArizona.com. Putz will also pitch Saturday, and then Monday and Tuesday, before the team considers activating him from the disabled list. Putz has not pitched since May 7 due to an elbow injury.

Arizona Republic — Two weeks after suffering an elbow injury, Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz has started to throw 90 feet on flat ground. "He's just throwing right now," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's playing catch. He just says his arm feels good, elbow feels good."

Heath Bell blows second save

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Diamondbacks reliever Heath Bell blew his second save Sunday against the Phillies. Bell, who had converted on three-straight saves since taking over as the closer for the inured J.J. Putz, came on in the ninth inning with a 2-0 lead. He surrendered four hits, including an RBI double by Delmon Young, which scored Philadelphia's first run. Domonic Brown also had a run-scoring single off Bell, who was pulled with two outs. Bell has a 5.06 ERA and is 4 of 6 in save chances.
