Angels 12, White Sox 9: Sox lose an ugly slugfest

South Side Sox — The Los Angeles Angels ended the White Sox four-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon with a 12-9 victory in an extremely ugly game that featured some words exchanged, two passed balls, 21 men left on base and a Terry Bevington-esque moment in bullpen management. The White Sox offense failed to capitalize on the struggles of Joe Blanton early, as they had two men on in each of the first three innings, but came away with nothing. In the first, Alexei Ramirez and Alex Rios had one-out singles, but Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko struck out to end the frame. In the second, Dayan Viciedo ...

Joe Blanton allows 11 hits in no-decision

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Angels starting pitcher Joe Blanton allowed 11 hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings Saturday against the White Sox, striking out six and allowing four earned runs. He was on the hook for the loss when he left the game, but the Angels took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Blanton's time in the rotation could be coming to an end with Jered Weaver and Tommy Hanson expected to rejoin the Angels soon. Blanton, who has allowed 23 hits in nine innings over his last two starts, could face the Royals next weekend.

Angels Postgame: 12-9 win

And it all started with Joe Blanton for the Angels, so how did he fare? Well, in usual fashion he allowed four runs and gave up eleven hits in just over four innings. Just a Joe Blanton type of game. After Joe Blanton's usual outing, Robert Coello, Dane De La Rosa, Garrett Richards, and Ernesto Frieri followed. As for the Angels hitting, they swung the bat fairly well -- combining for twelve hits. The White Sox did even batter by garnering se...

Judging the Royals: Beating up on a scuffling opponent

Kansas City Star — On Monday night, the Royals slapped around a team that is currently 14-24 with a .368 winning percentage. The pitcher they beat, Joe Blanton, woke up this morning with an 0-7 record and a 6.46 ERA. I'm not writing this to belittle Monday's win -- far from it. That was just the kind of game the Royals need to win to get where they want to go. But the Royals may not have done anything more to improve their performance than playing a worse team.

Butler broke out of a severe slump with five hits and five RBIs, and the Kansas City Royals kept Joe Blanton winless in eight starts this season with an 11-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. “I knew I had been getting closer, but it’s just one game,” Butler said. “You’ve got to come out and do it consistently. Hopefully I’m on that upward streak now.” read more
