Final: Astros 3, Angels 1

Orange County Register — Hang this one on the Angels' hitters. The Angels wasted a winnable start by Joe Blanton because their hitters couldn’t do much damage against Houston Astros ace Bud Norris in a 3-1 loss Wednesday night at Minute Maid Park. The Angels fell to 11-22,...

Halo Effect: A frustrating start

Angels Blog | ESPN Los Angeles — It’s been yet another frustrating start to the season for the Los Angeles Angels. As bad as the Halos started last season, they were actually a game better at this point (11-17) than they are in 2013 (10-18). A mark of eight games below .500 also matches their low point from last year. Blanton still winless On Thursday, starter Joe Blanton fell to 0-5 -- the Angels have lost all six of his starts. The righty has actually given the team a chance to win in his past two starts, but has gotten a total of three runs of support.

Stadium Emptying For Another Angels Loss

Halos Heaven — Final Score in Anaheim: Orioles 5, Angels 1 Angels starting pitcher Joe Blanton will sing to his pillow tonight something like this "Why do you build me up just to let me down?" Blanton pitched the best game of his short Angels career but saw his teammates offer no offense to speak of. As he wakes himself from a snore he might drift off thinking of signing with any other club, mumbling lyrically "...all for the prestige and the glory another human interest story." The Angels were mesmerized by some Baltimore pitcher. I almost fell asleep watching the dull dribblers and lightweight fly...

Mariners' Kendrys Morales hurts Angels

Los Angeles Times — His pinch-hit single in the seventh delivers the go-ahead run and the Mariners beat the Angels, 3-2.SEATTLE — It seemed like progress for Joe Blanton, who delivered his first quality start of the season Saturday night, but even after matching Seattle ace Felix Hernandez for six innings, the Angels right-hander took no solace in a 3-2 loss the Mariners in Safeco Field.

What if this week's Angels are as good as it gets?

Halos Heaven — What if this is as good as it gets? What if an 0-4 Joe Blanton has been pitching at the level he will continue to pitch at when things are their very best - when the optimum club, Seattle, is held to two or three runs, the myth of the quality start be damned. There are many components of the 2013 Angels team that we all hope get better. After 25 games we hope Joe Blanton gets better. We hope C.J. Wilson pitches more efficiently. We hope Jered Weaver heals up and goes back to being his old self. We hope Jason Vargas and Tommy Hanson are a but better than what they've shown. Luis Jimenez...

Angels Fall to the Mariners, 2-3

Halos HeavenJoe Blanton took the hill for the Halos and put on an above average performance (for his standards) in the beginning of the game. Through five innings, Blanton gave up ZERO runs. Yes, nothing! Then, the sixth inning rolled around and Blanton gave up a home run to Jesus Montero. He would leave the game with nine hits and four walks while earning himself three runs. It was a Joe Blanton type of day. The Angels hitting had a spark fly in the third inning when Chris Iannetta went yard and put the Halos on the board. But they were really no match for Felix Hernandez. The Mariners ace went...

Joe Blanton remains winless

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Angels starting pitcher Joe Blanton was pegged with his fourth loss Saturday night against the Mariners. Blanton, who made his fifth start, allowed three runs on nine hits over six innings in the 3-2 defeat. The right-hander carried a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning, but served up a game-tying, two-run home run to Jesus Montrero in the frame. He was pulled after surrendering a pair of leadoff singles to start the seventh, but the Mariners were able to score the go-ahead run in the inning, which was charged to Blanton. He was pulled after throwing 109 pitches -- 67 strikes -- and finished with f...

  • Angels 12, White Sox 9: Sox lose an ugly slugfest
The Los Angeles Angels ended the White Sox four-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon with a 12-9 victory in an extremely ugly game that featured some words exchanged, two passed balls, 21 men left on base and a Terry Bevington-esque moment in bullpen management. The White Sox offense failed to capitalize on the struggles of Joe Blanton early, as they had two men on in each of the first three innings, but came away with nothing. In the first, Alexei Ramirez and Alex Rios had one-out singles, but Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko struck out to end the frame. In the second, Dayan Viciedo ...
  • Angels Postgame: 12-9 win
This game was close, then the Angels had a cushioned lead, then the White Sox made it close yet again. Eventually, the Angels were able to win. And it all started with Joe Blanton for the Angels, so how did he fare? Well, in usual fashion he allowed four runs and gave up eleven hits in just over four innings. Just a Joe Blanton type of game. After Joe Blanton's usual outing, Robert Coello, Dane De La Rosa, Garrett Richards, and Ernesto Frieri followed. As for the Angels hitting, they swung the bat fairly well -- combining for twelve hits. The White Sox did even batter by garnering se...
