Blue Jays Spring Battles: Last two RHP in the bullpen

Blue Jays Spring Battles: Last two RHP in the bullpen

A few days ago we took a look at how the battle to be the second lefty in the Blue Jays bullpen was going, So I figured we ought to check out the battle for the last two right-handed spots in the pen. There are three sure things. Barring injury Roberto Osuna, Jason Grilli and Joe Smith have their spots locked down. In my mind, that leaves two spots up for grabs. The possibles: Joe Biagini: He has pitched in 5 games, starting 2. In 9.1 innings, he’s allowed 7 hits, 1 earned run (but 4 unearned runs), 1 home run, 4 walks with 7 strikeouts. Originally, I figured he was more likely to be...

Quick Recap: Jays lose to Rays

Quick Recap: Jays lose to Rays

Rays 5 Blue Jays 3 Lots of good pitching, from the Jays. And some of the regulars had good days with the bats. Pitching: Marcus Stroman: Pitched 2.2. Allowed 4 hits (3 singles and a double), no walks, with 3 strikeouts. I think the strike zone looked pretty small early in the game. Marcus looked pretty good. Aaron Loup: Got the last out of the 3rd inning. Marco Estrada: 2 innings, 1 hit, 1 strikeout. Looked great. Roberto Osuna: 1 inning, 2 k. Also looked great. Joe Smith: 1 inning, 2 strikeouts and a hit batter. Bo Schultz: Had a rough time of it. Gave up back-to-back singles...

Blue Jays: What’s the scoop with Loup?

The Blue Jays have several arms competing for the available bullpen jobs, and among them is 5 year Jays veteran, Aaron Loup. The Blue Jays have several decisions to make this Spring, with one of the more open competitions being in the bullpen. The likely guarantees include Roberto Osuna, Jason Grilli, J.P. Howell, Joe Smith, […] Blue Jays: What’s the scoop with Loup? - Jays Journal - Jays Journal - A Toronto Blue Jays Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Defense Struggles, Offense Lags Behind as Blue Jays Fall 5-4

Defense Struggles, Offense Lags Behind as Blue Jays Fall 5-4

Pitching was generally strong, but poor defense prompts Toronto’s 1-5 record. Facing a split squad roster, the Blue Jay fall to the Detroit Tigers at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium by a score of 5-4, worsening their spring record to 1-5. Although Ryan Borucki was initially pegged in for today’s start, a last minute change saw Ryan Tepera take the mound. Ben Nicholson-Smith, on Toronto’s radio broadcast, cited the need for increased familiarity between Tepera and starting catcher Russell Martin as the cause for the switch. Tepera, in an inning of work, was perfect, followed by Joe Smith...

Wednesday Lineup and GameThread

Another game that’s not on TV, but it is on MLB Audio. Winning yesterday was nice, I know it doesn’t matter, but it feels good to see the guys hit. The Jays are saying that Dalton Pompey has a cold and, though he’s getting his work in, batting practice and all, he won’t play in a game until he’s recovered. Ryan Tepera is getting the start and Joe Smith will get into the game early, because the team wants Russell Martin to catch them and Martin will be coming out of the game pretty early. Ryan Borucki, who was going to be the starter, will pitch at some point. Kevin Pillar is...
