Trevor Story might resume baseball activities tomorrow, Jon Gray’s Sunday start in Arizona is swapped

The shortstop is headed to Salt River Complex on Thursday to get more treatment and "maybe do a few baseball activities over there," according to manager Bud Black, to rehab from the minor injury that originated on a diving defensive play in Monday's series opener at Dodger Stadium.

Wednesday Rockpile: The trouble with Jon Gray

Wednesday Rockpile: The trouble with Jon Gray

Rockies news and links for September 19, 2018 Colorado Rockies: Ready to move on from Jon Gray? | Rox Pile The Rockies have placed a lot of emphasis on Jon Gray in the 2018 season. Bud Black has shown unfailing faith in him, and there have been many instances of him coming through. But then there have been times like Monday night’s 8-2 loss, where he completely falls apart. Despite pulling himself back together in a minor league stretch earlier this season, he still fights losing battles in important games. Given this tendency, it stands to reason that something needs to be done about...

Colorado Rockies: Ready to move on from Jon Gray?

This may be an extreme overreaction to a very deep and fresh wound, but it might be time for the Colorado Rockies to move on from starter Jon Gray. Gray’s excruciating performance in Monday night’s 8-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers was just another prime example of Gray’s failure to show up in a long […] Colorado Rockies: Ready to move on from Jon Gray? - Rox Pile - Rox Pile - A Colorado Rockies Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Kiz vs. Saunders: What’s the bigger concern for the Rockies: Jon Gray or slumping bats?

Kiz vs. Saunders: What’s the bigger concern for the Rockies: Jon Gray or slumping bats?

In the final days of a tense playoff race, I'm glad I'm not Rockies manager Bud Black. He has a slumping offense that goes down 1-2-3 more often than it goes deep and a starting pitching rotation that's barely 50 percent reliable.

Colorado Rockies: Trevor Story talks about his elbow injury

On Monday’s deflating 8-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers which also relinquished first place in the NL West to the Dodgers, it was the definition of a nightmare for the Colorado Rockies. Jon Gray imploded early (how many times have you heard that in the past calendar year) but perhaps, the biggest thing could […] Colorado Rockies: Trevor Story talks about his elbow injury - Rox Pile - Rox Pile - A Colorado Rockies Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Dodgers 8, Rockies 2: Jon Gray beat up in demoralizing loss

Dodgers 8, Rockies 2: Jon Gray beat up in demoralizing loss

That’s not the way the Rockies wanted to start the series Nothing went well for the Rockies Monday night. Between a total stinker from Gray, little offense, losing hold of first place, and a Trevor Story injury (of not-yet-announced-severity), it was the type of game you just want to to consign to oblivion. The bright side was that the score was 8-2 and not 8-0. Gray’s day Things went about as poorly as they could have for Jon Gray. The first batter Gray faced, Cody Bellinger, hit a home run to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. Gray recovered a bit and recorded a couple of outs, but a...

Dodgers blow up Jon Gray, Trevor Story exits due to injury in disastrous series-opening loss for Rockies

After setting down the Dodgers in order in the second, in the third Gray imploded in a fashion similar to the pressure-packed wild card game in Arizona last season, when the right-hander was tagged for four runs in one-plus innings.

The most important series of the season begins tonight

The most important series of the season begins tonight

This is the most important series of the season The Rockies are 0.5 game ahead of the Dodgers for first place in the NL West. Tonight, those two teams will begin a crucial three-game series that could very well decide who will win the National League West. Here’s what you need to know. Pitching matchups When the Dodgers visited Coors Field last week, they sent Jon Gray, Kyle Freeland, and Tyler Anderson to the mound. It resulted in a less than ideal series loss, with Freeland the only one turning in a good start that led to the Rockies lone victory in the series. Those same three...

German Márquez has been having a sneaky good 2018 season

German Márquez has been having a sneaky good 2018 season

The 23-year-old righty is having the best season of his career, but has been flying under the radar all season Before the 2018 season started, Jon Gray was the Rockies pitcher most expected to carry the staff. As the season progressed it looked more and more like Kyle Freeland assumed that role. Both have done their part, but there is one guy who often gets brushed over—German Márquez. It can be somewhat easy to overlook Márquez; he’s a quiet guy, and his season didn’t really take off until the second half. However, since the All-Star Break he, like Kyle Freeland, has been putting...

Rockies 5, Diamondbacks 4: DJ LeMahieu’s walk-off home run gives Rox the win

Rockies 5, Diamondbacks 4: DJ LeMahieu’s walk-off home run gives Rox the win

What. A. Finish. What a finish. With the Rockies down one run in the ninth inning, DJ LeMahieu knocked an opposite field walk-off home run to give the Rockies the win. Jon Gray had a rough start, and the offense missed a lot of opportunities to take the lead (eight men left on base), but the bullpen shut down the Diamondbacks, and DJ walked ‘em off. The 5-4 win improves the Rockies record to 80-65. They’re 1.5 games ahead of the Dodgers for first place in the NL West and are now 4.5 ahead of the Diamondbacks. Great signs Besides the big finish, there are two major things to note from...
