Morning Briefing: (Intrasquad) Game Day

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. FIRST PITCH: Let the games begin! OK, it’s only an intrasquad game on Tuesday, but it’s something. On the eve of the Grapefruit League schedule, the Mets will face themselves at noon at Tradition Field. David Wright, Michael Cuddyer and Curtis Granderson all will play, according to Terry Collins. The pitchers for the Team Blue: Jonathon Niese, Rafael Montero, Sean Gilmartin, Carlos Torres and Vic Black. The pitchers for the Team Orange: Zack Wheeler, Jenrry Mejia, Buddy Carlyle and Jeurys Familia.

Niese: Shoulder night and day from 2014

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Jonathon Niese opened last season on the disabled list, officially with inflammation in his left elbow. Truth be told, he said Thursday as Mets pitchers and catchers officially reported, he probably should have missed the season's opening month rather than make his season debut April 6. Adam RubinJon Niese throws off the mound this week in Port St. Lucie. "There was a sharp pain in there," Niese said about a knife-like sensation in his shoulder.

Morning Briefing: We're back!

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. FIRST PITCH: We’re back! Pitchers and catchers don’t officially report until Thursday, but “Morning Briefing” already is reporting for duty. Actually, plenty of Mets already are working out at the team’s spring-training complex, including Matt Harvey, David Wright, Daniel Murphy, Lucas Duda, Zack Wheeler, Jacob deGrom, Jonathon Niese, Dillon Gee and Bobby Parnell. Besides Thursday, other notable dates: Saturday: First pitchers and catchers workout.
