Mets, with little offense and sloppy defense, fall to Dodgers, 6-2

A fine start from Jonathon Niese wasted as Mets struggle at plate and in the field

Niese wins 50th as Met, dodges injury

LEFTY SPECIALS A look at the all-time wins leaders among Mets left-handers: NEW YORK -- Jonathon Niese became the seventh left-hander in franchise history to win 50 career games in a Mets uniform, although the southpaw downplayed the achievement after the Mets' 7-3 victory against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night. Niese had departed with the bases loaded and none out in the seventh and the Mets leading by four runs. Vic Black stranded all three baserunners to avoid an unsightly line for Niese.

NEW YORK – Wilmer Flores provided a spark with his bat and glove, leading Jonathon Niese and the New York Mets to a 7-3 victory over the Cubs on Saturday night.

Report: Niese, Grandy clear waivers

PHILADELPHIA -- Jonathon Niese and Curtis Granderson have cleared waivers, making them eligible to be traded this month, Jon Heyman reports at CBSSports.com. Granderson Niese Teams routinely put their players through waivers in August with no intention of moving them, in part to mask other players they hope to sneak through. In fact, Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg reportedly were placed on waivers, claimed and pulled back in recent days by the Washington Nationals.

Niese searches for feel after delivery tweak

WASHINGTON -- After a fourth straight underwhelming performance since returning from the disabled list, Jonathon Niese insisted he feels healthy. Niese allowed six runs in six innings, including homers to Adam LaRoche and Danny Espinosa, in the Mets’ 7-1 loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. The southpaw instead suggested improper pitching mechanics before the All-Star break were causing shoulder irritation. So he has revised his mechanics.

Tristan H. Cockcroft explains why you should start Jonathon Niese on Wednesday.

Jonathon Niese 'lengthened out' in loss

NEW YORK -- The way Ryan Vogelsong was pitching and the way the New York Mets were hitting, this wasn't a game the Mets were going to win. Probably not from the time Jonathon Niese's throwing error led to a two-run second inning, and definitely not from the time Niese's pitching (and in his mind a mental error) led to a three-run seventh. It ended up as a 5-1 Mets loss to the San Francisco Giants on Friday night, and there sure weren't many positives for the Mets in this one.

Niese’s error costly in Mets’ loss to Giants

Jonathon Niese had only himself to blame — himself and the ineptitude of the Mets offense. Or was it the utter brilliance of Ryan Vogelsong? It was awfully hard to...
