Jose Constanza aims to make late push

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Braves outfielder Jose Constanza finally joined the team on Friday after being delayed in the Dominican Republic for nearly a month by visa issues. Constanza, who is competing with Jordan Schafer for a roster spot, quickly made his Grapefruit League debut against the Mets on Friday and was thrown out trying to steal as a pinch runner. "It's not like we've never seen him or laid eyes on him. We know him and know what he can do," manager Fredi Gonzalez told MLB.com. "We'll get him some at-bats. I don't think he's ready to play nine innings out of the chute. I think the history helps him." ...

Pastornicky Making Case for Braves Bench Job

Atlanta Bullpen — Conventional wisdom is that Evan Gattis, Jordan Schafer, or Jose Constanza, will win the fifth spot on the Braves bench.  Gattis has tremendous power, Schafer has speed and can play all three outfield positions, and Constanza has proven that he can be productive in the major leagues. But with the multiple position capability of Martin [...]The post Pastornicky Making Case for Braves Bench Job appeared first on Atlanta Bullpen.

Schafer in a good place

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Braves outfielder Jordan Schafer enters spring training trying to land a bench spot this season. Schafer, who was drafted by the Braves in 2005, batted just .211 with four homers, 23 RBI and 27 stolen bases for the Astros a year ago. "Physically the stuff has been there," Schafer told MLB.com. "Mentally, I've been all over the place. I need to grow up and mature a little bit. I've [been dumb] in the past. But I think mentally, I'm in a good place right now."

Both Pastornicky, and Schafer, live in Florida, so Gonzalez couldn’t understand why they hadn’t arrived in camp by Wednesday, even though Thursday [...]The post Fredi Gonzalez Drops the Hammer on Players appeared first on Atlanta Bullpen.
