Final Score: Marlins 5, Mets 4-Walked off in Miami

Final Score: Marlins 5, Mets 4-Walked off in Miami

It was a bad night for the bullpen in the late innings. A.J. Ramos blew his first save with the Mets in the ninth, and Paul Sewald gave up the game-winning home run to J.T. Realmuto in the tenth to hand the Mets a 5-4 loss. Seth Lugo started off the night well on the mound. With a limited pitch count, he made it through five innings and allowed four hits and just one run. That one run came off the bat of Christian Yelich who took Lugo deep in the fourth. The Mets used the long ball to get on the board as well. Jose Reyes had a great night at the plate and got the scoring started when he...

Mets vs. Braves Recap: Gsellman excellent, offense adequate

Robert Gsellman starred in the Mets’ final game in Atlanta for the season. Instead of entering their usual Sunday malaise, the Mets topped the Braves 5-1 in Atlanta. Robert Gsellman led the way, tossing seven excellent innings, and the offense rallied late to put the game out of reach for a bad Braves team. The Mets got off to a fast start against Teheran thanks to some excellent plate discipline. Nori Aoki worked a seven pitch walk to start the game, and Jose Reyes followed by ripping a triple down the right field line to give the Mets a quick 1-0 lead. Brandon Nimmo and...

Final Score: Braves 3, Mets 2-Meet the new Montero, same as the old Montero

Final Score: Braves 3, Mets 2-Meet the new Montero, same as the old Montero

At least they didn’t lose by double-digits. Rafael Montero had been pitching better as of late, but he is still Rafael Montero and one inning proved to be his undoing in the 3-2 loss. The Braves jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but the Mets immediately tied up the game an inning later with a manufactured run. Gavin Ceechini led off the inning with a double, and after Montero sacrificed him over, he came home on Jose Reyes’s groundout. Dominic Smith continued his torrid September and handed the Mets the lead when he doubled home Asdrubal Cabrera with two-out in the fourth. Unfortunately...

Final score: Cubs 17, Mets 5—They’re still playing games

Final score: Cubs 17, Mets 5—They’re still playing games

The Mets were rocked in Chicago. The Mets lost to the Cubs on Wednesday night in Chicago, and it wasn’t even close, as the Cubs scored seventeen runs to the Mets’ five. Matt Harvey made another very bad start—three-and-a-third innings, five earned runs, seven hits, two strikeouts, and four walks—before the bullpen went and made his outing look good. The Mets scored first when Jose Reyes began the game by hitting a home run, and they managed to tie things up at two in the second. But the Cubs pretty much ran away with things from there. The only remaining highlight in the game was...

The Mets won their third straight behind the arm of Seth Lugo and the bats of Jose Reyes and Travis Taijeron Before Friday night, the Mets had not won three consecutive games since July 20-22, which was a part of a four-game winning streak. Nearly two months later, the Mets have finally achieved another three-game winning streak after knocking off the Reds in the series opener by a score of 5-1. Final Score: Mets 7, Reds 2—Nimmotional Rescue

A successful start to the series. The Mets defeated the Reds 7-2 in the first game of a four game series at Citi Field. Brandon Nimmo continued to make the most of his recent increased playing time, going 3 for four with a walk, a double, and two home runs. Juan Lagares, Kevin Plawecki, Jose Reyes, and Dominic Smith all contributed offensively as well. Rookie Tyler Mahle started for the Reds, and got knocked out of the game after just four innings, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks. But the real story of the night was Matt Harvey, who went five innings and giving up two runs...

Final Score: Mets 6, Phillies 3—Early runs and late rain

The Mets rode their bats and the weather to a rain-shortened victory. The Mets got on the board early and held on until the rains came for a 6-3 win over the Phillies at Citi Field. Asdrubal Cabrera drove home Jose Reyes to put the Mets on the board in the first, and the next batter, Travis d’Arnaud, homered to right-center field to give the Mets a 3-0 lead. They added single runs in the second, third, and fifth, with the first coming on a Robert Gsellman RBI single and the latter two coming on Brandon Nimmo sacrifice flies.
