Mets vs. Rockies Recap: Gray skies are gonna clear up

The offense opened the second half with a bang. It was a rain-soaked afternoon in New York, but the wet weather departed in time for the Mets to open up their second half with a 14-2 victory over the Rockies. Jacob deGrom squared off against Jon Gray and the first inning was by no means indicative of how this game would continue. WIN, 14-2 All-Star Charlie Blackmon led off the game with a single against deGrom. DJ LeMahieu followed with a groundout back to deGrom, but Jose Reyes could not complete the throw to first for the double play. Next, the always-dangerous Nolan...

Mets vs. Nationals recap: Mets declare independence from division race

Mets vs. Nationals recap: Mets declare independence from division race

The Mets were blown out by the Nationals in their game that began on Tuesday morning. After suffering a crushing defeat on Monday night, the Mets’ chances of pulling off an improbable surge into the National League East race already felt diminished. And by the time everyone woke up and had breakfast on the fourth of July, they had done even more damage to those very slim hopes in a game that they eventually lost by seven runs. Even that score—11-4 was the final—doesn’t really do the game justice. Sure, it was interesting for a while. Jose Reyes led off the game with...

Final Score: Nationals 11, Mets 4—Everything is awful

Final Score: Nationals 11, Mets 4—Everything is awful

Seth Lugo and basically everyone else had a rough time on the mound today. A 2-2 game at the midway point turned into a rout as the Mets dropped a clunker to the Nationals, 11-4. Jose Reyes led off the game with a home run, and after the Nats put up a two-spot in the third, Rene Rivera added a solo shot in the fourth to tie the game. Then the wheels came off, as Washington scored four runs in the fifth and another three in the sixth to take a 9-2 lead. Two more runs in the bottom of the eighth made it 11-2, and only a Jay Bruce two-run home run in the top of the ninth kept the final score...

Mets vs Marlins Recap: That’s more like it

Mets vs Marlins Recap: That’s more like it

Matz, Cabrera, Granderson, and seemingly everyone else steamrolled the Marlins. The Mets evened their series with the Marlins this evening in Miami by the score of 8-0. The Marlins sent Jeff Locke to the mound, and the game did not exactly start off well for the Fish. After walking Curtis Granderson to start the game, Locke gave up a two-run home run to Asdrubal Cabrera. Though they did not know it at the time, this would have been enough offense for the night. A few outs later, a Jay Bruce single and a Travis d’Arnaud walk set up a Jose Reyes single, which plated Bruce....
