Jose Valverde allowed two home runs in the ninth inning Wednesday against the D-Backs. Terry Collins later said Valverde will continue to be his closer. Valverde let up three earned runs in his previous start, blowing a save opportunity against the Angels.

Valverde, working with a five-run lead in the ninth, surrendered inning-opening homers to Aaron Hill and Paul Goldschmidt, forcing Collins to have Carlos Torres and Daisuke Matsuzaka up in the bullpen.
