Sons of Steve GarveyZack Greinke (1-0, 1.59) vs. Ross Detweiler (2-3, 2.53) Zack is back from his attack! It's only been a month since his collarbone went kapowski! That's nuts! Of course, he's limited to pretty much being a pitching machine, but I'd trust that pitching machine more than Josh Beckett at this point. (Beckett, btw, heads to the DL with general suckiness a strained groin to make room for Greinke.) Can Zack go long, or will he need to be saved by the Beli? Maybe Matt Kemp, who has seen his powers screech to halt, will finally break out the long ball? I'm so excited! I'm so excited! I'm so scared...

Post-Game 37 Thread: Short Streak

Sons of Steve Garvey — NATIONALS 6, DODGERS 2 If you had to isolate one inning tonight which summarized the Dodgers' 2013 season to date, it would have been the fourth inning in tonight's "contest" (and I use that loosely). Josh Beckett had labored through three slow innings, yielding a 4-0 lead to the Nationals through three. Don Mattingly had seen enough and called for reliever Javy Guerra before Beckett could take the seven minutes to throw his 69th pitch. Guerra, who ended up struggling in his second inning of work, actually had a clean fourth inning: three up, three down. Enter Dee Gordon, who had absurd...

Josh Beckett still winless after Dodgers fall 6-2 to Nationals

Los Angeles Times — At some point you hope the Dodgers will look at the calendar, see it’s the middle of May and realize that they can no longer tolerate continued non-production from Luis Cruz. That they cannot allow catcher Ramon Hernandez to take up a spot on the roster. That healthy pitchers return and fill-ins head out.

The Nats are in town — time for the big guns.Josh Beckett (0-4, 5.13) vs. Jordan Zimmermann (6-1, 1.59). What can we say? The Dodgers respond to boobs and pentagrams. We don't control these things. Well, it's another start without Kershaw, Greinke or Ryu on the mound. It's another opponent that won't roll over like the Marlins. It's another Dodger offense still not at full strength. It's Don Mattingly's fault, right? Folly, says Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports. Unfortunately, there's not much Donnie can tell his batters to do against the hottest pitcher in the NL. A series win against the Fish was ...

The view from the cellar. Josh Beckett (0-4, 5.24) vs. Brandon McCarthy (0-3, 7.22). Josh Beckett, he of the six starts, the last of which lasted a whopping 4.0 IP for the loss, won't get a gift like this very often. Tonight he faces an opposing starting pitcher who is not only also winless, but whose ERA and WHIP are actually worse (a WHIP of 1.723 vs. 1.427 for Beckett). As the Dodgers peer up at the Giants (5.5 GB), the Rockies (5.0 GB), the Diamondbacks (3.5 GB), and even the (gasp!) Padres (0.5 GB), there's clearly no place to go but up. And just think! To compensate attendees fo...
