Phillies fall in series opener vs. Rockies

Phillies fall in series opener vs. Rockies

Zach Eflin looked solid through five innings, but the Rockies offense broke out the long ball in the later innings and beat the Phillies in the series opener last night at Coors Field, 6-2.Eflin finished the night after six innings, surrendering two earned runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out a pair. The Phillies collected just five hits in the contest with Cesar Hernandez accounting for three of them. J.T. Realmuto provided a two-run shot in the seventh that gave the Phillies their only runs of the contest.Bryce Harper worked a walk in the loss to extend his on-base streak to...

Game Thread 4/17: Mets at Phillies

It’s an afternoon rubber match in South Philly with Jake Arrieta on the mound. The Mets fell hard last night in a Phillies win with so many fun little subplots, it was enough to make you forget the 9-8 extra-inning slog they lost the night before: Scott Kingery, productive and powerful hitter; Jerad Eickhoff, four-inning out machine; J.T. Realmuto, eliminator of Jorge Alfaro memories; and all the tomfoolery and jackassery that defined the Mets defense. It’s a new day, and those 14 runs they scored last night have turned back to zero. With Jake Arrieta on the mound, the Phillies look to...

The Phillies can finally upgrade at the backup catcher position

The Phillies can finally upgrade at the backup catcher position

It’s not much, but hey - it’s something! Back in January, I advocated the team upgrading the backup catcher spot. It seemed like a decent way to squeeze an extra win out of a roster that, at the time, did not include either Bryce Harper or J.T. Realmuto. It looked like a team that needed to get any extra wins it could muster due to the fact that the rest of the National League East had upgraded so much (sorry - not you, Miami). Fast forward to now and this team looks a lot better - and still needs to add a better option at the backup catcher spot. Well, unless you count a .191/.289/.302...

Phillies rumors: Should team be interested in Blake Swihart?

The Red Sox designated backup catcher and utility player Blake Swihart for assignment Tuesday. Should the Phillies be interested? While the Phillies have an established starting catcher in J.T. Realmuto, Andrew Knapp is not a standout option as a backup. So far this year Knapp has just one hit and two walks in 14 plate […] Phillies rumors: Should team be interested in Blake Swihart? - That Balls Outta Here - That Balls Outta Here - A Philadelphia Phillies Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Game Thread 4/13: Phillies at Marlins

It’s game two in Miami after the Phillies did some fishing on Friday night. After hanging nine runs and 14 hits on the Marlins last night, the superpowered Phillies lineup is back in action, this time with Zach Eflin, their best pitcher (0.75 ERA through two starts) on the mound. Oh, and one of the prospects the Phillies traded to Miami for J.T. Realmuto pounded through a lot of a no-hitter last night. Huh, I guess this was technically a return back to his old team for Realmuto. Did anybody boo? Was anybody there? Happy Saturday, everyone.

Phillies: Is Rhys Hoskins Philadelphia’s best MVP candidate?

With a hot start to the season, is Rhys Hoskins the player with the best chances to win the Most Valuable Player award on the Phillies? The Phillies added two former MVPs this offseason and one, Bryce Harper, still has the potential to win the award again. J.T. Realmuto, another offseason addition, has the upside […] Phillies: Is Rhys Hoskins Philadelphia’s best MVP candidate? - That Balls Outta Here - That Balls Outta Here - A Philadelphia Phillies Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

5 Unanswered Questions for the 2019 Phillies

The Phillies are playoff contenders, but there are still a few questions the team must answer heading into Opening Day. Phillies fans are expecting big things from the team that will take the field on Thursday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park against the defending NL East champion Atlanta Braves. This off-season, the Phils spent almost $480 million on Bryce Harper, Jean Segura, Andrew McCutchen, David Robertson and J.T. Realmuto, and extended Aaron Nola by giving him $45 million, too. They also still have $75 million man Jake Arrieta in the starting rotation as well. Investing in that kind...
