Final Score: Mets 7, Braves 3-Jake the Great

The Mets’ ace defeated a former ace for the victory. Jacob deGrom was fantastic on the way to his 15th win in the Mets’ 7-3 victory over R.A. Dickey and the Braves. Dickey and deGrom had opposite fortunes in the first inning. Dickey breezed through the first three Met batters, whereas deGrom faced a first and third with one out situation in the bottom of the inning. deGrom worked out of trouble without giving up a run, and after that Houdini act the Mets seized control of the game. Gavin Ceechini had a great day at the plate with three hits and two RBIs. He and Juan Lagares put the...

Braves can’t solve Jacob deGrom

Braves can’t solve Jacob deGrom

The Braves just couldn’t get anything started against the Mets ace. The Braves and Mets both went quietly in the first but the Mets picked in up in the second against R.A. Dickey. Top prospect Dominic Smith led off the inning with a single and then Travis d’Arnaud (Brother of Braves legend Chase d’Arnaud) followed with another single. Then, after a popup, Juan Lagares continued the singles spree which brought the first run in to score. That brought up Gavin Cecchini who, you guessed it, singled to right field to score d’Arnaud. Then mercifully Lagares was caught in a run down and...

Mets pitchers were throwing meatballs in hot dog country The Cubs defeated the Mets tonight in the first game of their three-game set at Wrigley Field, 8-3. Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and struggled with his control, but kept the Cubs off the board until the fourth inning, when Gsellman could no longer walk the tighrope, giving up four runs, including a three-run home run by Kris Bryant. Juan Lagares led off the fourth inning with a double, and he eventually scored after advancing on a pair of ground balls. The Mets added their second run in the fifth on a Travis d’Arnaud...

Brandon Nimmo making his case for an everyday roster spot with New York Mets in 2018

The New York Mets went through their fair share of upheaval in the outfield this season. They began the season with a starting outfield trio of Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson, and Jay Bruce. Fast forward to September, and the outfield looks completely different. The Mets placed Cespedes on the disabled list, and traded Granderson and […] The post Brandon Nimmo making his case for an everyday roster spot with New York Mets in 2018 appeared first on OutsidePitchMLB.

Final Score: Mets 7, Reds 2—Nimmotional Rescue

A successful start to the series. The Mets defeated the Reds 7-2 in the first game of a four game series at Citi Field. Brandon Nimmo continued to make the most of his recent increased playing time, going 3 for four with a walk, a double, and two home runs. Juan Lagares, Kevin Plawecki, Jose Reyes, and Dominic Smith all contributed offensively as well. Rookie Tyler Mahle started for the Reds, and got knocked out of the game after just four innings, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks. But the real story of the night was Matt Harvey, who went five innings and giving up two runs...

The offense kicked it in gear against the Philadelphia. Rafael Montero started strong but faded late, and Hansel Robles and Paul Sewald struggled in their appearances, but none of it mattered in the 11-7 win. Kevin Plawecki helped start the scoring early when he singled and stole a base in the second. He came home on Juan Lagares’s single and the Mets’ offense was off and running for the day. Asdrubal Cabrera and Jose Reyes blasted home runs the following inning, but it was the fourth when the offense did the most damage. The Mets sent eleven men to the plate and scored six runs against...
