Sammy Solis, Victor Robles make cases for Washington Nationals’ postseason roster...

Will Sammy Solis claim a spot in the Nationals’ postseason bullpen? Will Dusty Baker keep Victor Robles on his bench? Two players on the bubble for the Washington Nationals’ postseason roster impressed in Sunday’s win over of the New York Mets. Sammy Solis, one of the relievers that’s in the mix for a bullpen spot in the NLDS, came on with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth and struck out right-handed hitting catcher Kevin Plawecki, and 20-year-old Nats’ outfielder Victor Robles made a strong impression in right, with a leaping catch at the wall early in the game, and a...

Final Score: Nationals 4, Mets 3—Superhero Cameo

Syndergaard throws spotless first inning in extra inning Noah Syndergaard made a blink-and-you’d-miss-it cameo in his first major league appearance since April 30. Syndergaard hit 99 MPH on the gun over his five pitch appearance. The Nationals made some solid contact, but Daniel Murphy grounded into a double play to end Syndergaard’s brief return. The Mets jumped out to an early lead by plating three in the bottom of the third inning against Stephen Strasburg. A Brandon Nimmo RBI double opened the scoring, then Kevin Plawecki followed with a two-run single that just squirted through...

Mets vs Braves final score: Atlanta can’t find any offense in 5-1 loss

Atlanta manages just four hits against Mets pitching. Julio Teheran turned in another solid outing but the Atlanta Braves couldn’t give him any run support in a 5-1 loss to the New York Mets. Teheran’s day got off to a rocky start when he walked leadoff man Nori Aoki who scored on a triple by Jose Reyes to put the Mets in front 1-0. Teheran then walked Brandon Nimmo to put runners at the corners before striking out Kevin Plawecki thanks to a generous third strike call by home plate umpire C.B. Bucknor. Teheran followed with his third free pass of the inning to Dominic Smith to load...

Final Score: Mets 6, Reds 1-Bullish bullpen

The bullpen was fantastic in the Mets’ win. Rafael Montero was good enough in the 6-1 win over the Reds. Montero looked great in the first inning, but in every subsequent inning it was a battle for him. He allowed a run to score in the second on a Scott Schebler sacrifice fly, but he was able to limit the damage. He was done after five innings with a high pitch count, but he allowed just the one Cincinnati run. It wasn’t the prettiest of outings but he left the game with the lead. Kevin Plawecki handed the Mets the lead in the second when he hit a two-run shot off Homer Bailey, and...

Final Score: Mets 7, Reds 2—Nimmotional Rescue

A successful start to the series. The Mets defeated the Reds 7-2 in the first game of a four game series at Citi Field. Brandon Nimmo continued to make the most of his recent increased playing time, going 3 for four with a walk, a double, and two home runs. Juan Lagares, Kevin Plawecki, Jose Reyes, and Dominic Smith all contributed offensively as well. Rookie Tyler Mahle started for the Reds, and got knocked out of the game after just four innings, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks. But the real story of the night was Matt Harvey, who went five innings and giving up two runs...

Kevin Plawecki looks to leap Travis d’Arnaud in September

It’s hard to believe now but back when the Mets traded R.A. Dickey, the main get was Travis d’Arnaud, who was billed as a star two-way backstop. As a franchise, the Mets have been blessed with some pretty strong catchers…Read more →

Mets vs. Phillies Recap: Offense at work

Mets vs. Phillies Recap: Offense at work

The Mets’ offense went to work against Phillie pitching on Labor Day. The lineup on Labor Day looked a lot different than it did on Opening Day, but the young hitters still thrived against Phillies pitching in the 11-7 victory. Since his most recent call-up, Kevin Plawecki has looked much better both at the plate and behind it. In 22 at bats in August he hit .364/.440/.591 with a 1.031 OPS. Obviously that is a small sample size, but for comparison, in May, he hit .105/.217/.158 with a .375 OPS in 19 at bats. Early on he made an impact in all facets of the game. He threw...

Final Score: Mets 11, Phillies 7-Mets’ Labours Not Lost

The offense kicked it in gear against the Philadelphia. Rafael Montero started strong but faded late, and Hansel Robles and Paul Sewald struggled in their appearances, but none of it mattered in the 11-7 win. Kevin Plawecki helped start the scoring early when he singled and stole a base in the second. He came home on Juan Lagares’s single and the Mets’ offense was off and running for the day. Asdrubal Cabrera and Jose Reyes blasted home runs the following inning, but it was the fourth when the offense did the most damage. The Mets sent eleven men to the plate and scored six runs against...

Final score: Mets 2, Reds 0—Masterful Montero

Final score: Mets 2, Reds 0—Masterful Montero

The Mets avoided a ninth inning nightmare after Montero’s excellent start. Following a rough night for Mets pitchers on Tuesday, the team bounced back in a big way Wednesday to shut out the Reds in a 2-0 victory. Three doubles from Jose Reyes, Wilmer Flores, and Kevin Plawecki gave the Mets that lead in the first inning. And that was all Rafael Montero needed. After hitting one of his lowest points as a major leaguer earlier this season, Montero has really picked up steam. And in this game, he reached his peak, as he struck out eight and brought a one-hitter into the bottom of the...
