McCovey Chronicles — The Los Angeles Dodgers, after winning the division on Opening Day, have fallen on tough times. They're 18-25, and they've lost key contributors to injury. Juan Uribe is outhitting Matt Kemp. Luis Cruz has a -37 OPS+. Nick Punto leads the team in on-base percentage. This is causing concern in Dodger-land. And it's also causing speculation that manager Don Mattingly might not be around for a long time. From Ken Rosenthal Watching Sunday’s meltdown on television, I thought, "Mattingly might be gone tomorrow." And then I got a text from a rival scout, one who has no particular insight in...

Josh Beckett still winless after Dodgers fall 6-2 to Nationals

Los Angeles Times — At some point you hope the Dodgers will look at the calendar, see it’s the middle of May and realize that they can no longer tolerate continued non-production from Luis Cruz. That they cannot allow catcher Ramon Hernandez to take up a spot on the roster. That healthy pitchers return and fill-ins head out.

Astros’ high A minor-league affiliate combines for no-hitter

Houston Chronicle — The hitter-friendly California League isn’t associated with near-perfection by pitchers. But that’s what two Astros minor-league hurlers achieved Sunday. Luis Cruz working on mechanics

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Dodgers third baseman Luis Cruz was out of the lineup for the second straight game Tuesday against the Mets. He entered the contest batting a lowly .087 with one RBI in 46 at-bats. The 29-year-old hit .297 with a .431 slugging percentage for Los Angeles last season. "He's done it once, he can do it again," Mattingly said. "I don't think they're pitching him differently. I think he's just lost confidence. There's stuff going on with his lower half -- it's off before the swing is coming -- that's why you're seeing so many pop-ups."Mattingly said Cruz is working on his mechanical flaw so he can "...

Luis Cruz is the best third baseman in the National League West

McCovey Chronicles — As a man of modest means, I didn't have much to donate to the Alex Lewis Scholarship auction. All I had was this here website. I have an apartment here on the website. Well, it's a cot above the garage, but it stays warm enough. Can't complain. As such, the only thing I could offer up in memory of Alex was something related to the website. I auctioned off three chances to pick the topic of a story at McCovey Chronicles. Seemed easy enough. Except, as you can tell by the title of this article, it appears there was a catch. A Dodgers fan won one of the auctions. DodgerFanInPackerLand, to...

Dodgers concern for Luis Cruz growing?

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Dodgers third baseman Luis Cruz remains in an offensive funk through two weeks, leaving the Los Angeles Times to ponder when will manager Don Mattingly say enough is enough and move to Plan B. "Luis is a concern," Mattingly said. "He doesn’t have the track record of Matt (Kemp). The fly balls tell me a story, and it’s not a good one. Luis hasn’t swung the bat for us like he did last year to this point." Cruz is batting .111 (4 for 36) through 11 games, but he's encouraged after going 1 for 3 with a sac bunt Monday against the Padres. "I was seeing the ball better," Cruz said. "That’s huge. I j...
