Royals reliever Luke Hochevar has season-ending neck surgery

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Kansas City Royals say reliever Luke Hochevar had surgery Tuesday in St. Louis to relieve thoracic outlet syndrome. The procedure included a scalenectomy, which repairs a muscle in the front of the neck. Hochevar, a 32-year-old right-hander, is expected to need six months to recover. The Royals hope he will be ready for spring training. read more

Royals place Luke Hochevar on 15-day disabled list

ARLINGTON, Texas — Kansas City Royals reliever Luke Hochevar has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. The Royals made the move before Thursday night’s game at Texas, and said the right-hander has symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome. That is a condition when blood vessels or nerves between the collarbone and first rib become compressed, and can cause pain in the shoulder and neck. Kansas City recalled right-hander Brooks Pounders from Triple-A Omaha. read more
