Red Sox 5, Indians 7: Imagine this space was just filled with a whole lot of swears

Red Sox 5, Indians 7: Imagine this space was just filled with a whole lot of swears

Ryan Brasier, Travis Lakins and Marcus Walden all have tough days in a blown effort. The biggest issue for the Red Sox all season long was the bullpen. Everyone knew this, and even if you were against them making a big-money signing for someone like Craig Kimbrel you likely wanted them to do something to address the issue. In fairness, the performance from the relievers has been mostly good this year, but it’s always felt like a tightrope walk. It’s Matt Barnes and the rest, and on Tuesday “the rest” failed them. David Price was phenomenal despite being interrupted for an hour by...

Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 5: Michael Chavis hits the game-winner in a rollercoaster game

Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 5: Michael Chavis hits the game-winner in a rollercoaster game

I’ve re-written this headline and sub-header about five times now and I’m done. Well this was a wild one. The first two games of this series in Toronto were blowouts, with each team grabbing one win. This was a close affair, though, with the Red Sox having leads for most of the evening but never really getting to pull away. They did have some chances to expand on their leads, but couldn’t take advantage. Daily Red Sox Links: Brandon Workman, Marcus Walden, Koji Uehara

In today’s links, we talk all about relievers of the past and present. Brandon Workman is pitching at an especially high level right now. (Rob Bradford; WEEI) Marcus Walden deserves some attention as well. (Sean McAdam; Boston Sports Journal) ($$) Koji Uehara didn’t pitch his entire career for the Red Sox, but some of the best work of that career came in Boston. (Rob Bradford; WEEI) Rafael Devers did something like Michael Chavis which is a very good thing right now. (Christopher Smith; MassLive) The Houston Astros will be this year’s final boss. (John Tomase; NBC Sports Boston)

Daily Red Sox Links: J.D. Martinez, Matt Barnes, Steve Pearce

Remember when Happy Gilmore learned how to putt? That’s like when J.D. Martinez starts to heat up for the Red Sox. (Alex Speier; Boston Globe) With what we’re seeing from Martinez now, we’re being reminded of how important he is to this team. John Tomase argues it’s time to address his future here. (John Tomase; NBC Sports Boston) Matt Barnes hasn’t been perfect this year and will give up runs here and there, but even when that happens Alex Cora is still using his best reliever the right way. (Sean McAdam; Boston Sports Journal) ($$) Marcus Walden has emerged as the team’s...
