  • Cleveland Indians
CLEVELAND: What do David Price, Philip Humber, R.A. Dickey, Mark Buehrle and Roy Halladay have in common? Each has won a Cy Young Award or thrown a no-hitter (or both), and all have been pummeled by the Indians this year, combining for an 0-4 record and 14.60 ERA against the suddenly Wicked Wahoos. To be fair, Ervin Santana, Jake Peavy and Jon Lester, also Cy Young winners or no-hit perpetrators, are 3-0 with a 2.14 ERA against the Tribe in 2013. But shouldn’t that be the norm for starters of great achievement?Tuesday night at Progressive Field, Halladay, who has gloried in throwing a no-hitter ...
  • Terrerobytes: A salute to Tyler Greene's game face
In Tyler Greene's first at-bat with the White Sox, he reached base when he shot a single to left off Mark Buehrle. Before another pitch was thrown, Buehrle picked him off. So it's hard to blame him if he's extra-vigilant when being called upon to pinch-run in close-and-late situations. Here he is from Monday night: And here his "Felix the Cat clock" while replacing Adam Dunn after his eighth-inning walk on Wednesday: It's hard to compare Greene and Angel Sanchez, whose spot Greene took thanks to a back injury. Greene has far more power, and far more problems making contact. Sanchez i...

  • These White Sox aren't made for walking
Mark Buehrle doesn't walk many batters, but on Monday, somehow he found his way into issuing two of them to the least walkable team in the big leagues, your Chicago White Sox. That gave the Sox their first multi-walk game since Gio Gonzalez had problems in the first inning on April 9, and it's going to take worse lapses to allow the White Sox to climb out of last place in that category. They have drawn 18 walks over their first 13 games, which is 10 behind the 29th-place Chicago Cubs. The typical National League inflation in intentional walks (five for the Cubs, one for the Sox) doesn'...
