Seattle Mariners May 18, 2013Mariners Blog | Seattle Times Oliver Perez picked the wrong time to have a rare off day, giving up a leadoff single and then a double to Asdrubal Cabrera in the ninth. Bless You Boys The week of May 10th through the 16th that featured an early showdown in Detroit between the Tigers and the Cleveland Indians was actually sort of a mundane week in the AL Central. Yes, the Tribe won a road series from the Tigers when Jose Valverde walked Michael Bourn and then allowed the only hit he has surrendered so far this year to blow a save. The Tribe would take the game on a two-out hit from Mark Reynolds an inning later. Cleveland and the Chicago White Sox were the AL Central teams to post a winning record on the week, both 4-3. Otherwise the division as a whole was treading ...

South Side Sox Across the AL Central, the division's three other hopefuls have benefited from hot starts by their significant outside acquisitions. For the Indians, Nick Swisher is having a Nick Swisher season, and Mark Reynolds is blowing the doors off his early projections. Torii Hunter did the same in April for Detroit, although he's cooled off in May. James Shields is leading the Royals' rotation like they hoped, and Ervin Santana's ERA is below 3.00, too. It's like the other AL Central teams have faith that their operating systems will be able to integrate outside additions as easily as plug-and...

"We [took him out because we] wanted to get [Nick Swisher] out of right. [Reynolds] is okay." The slugger is batting .271 on the season after a double in the third inning that scored a pair of runs. He has hom...
