Diamondbacks' Martin Prado tries to avoid thinking about stats

Arizona Republic — Too much thinking will doom a ballplayer. Straight up doom him. That's why when Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero talks baseball with teammate Martin Prado, he makes sure he doesn't bring up statistics or streaks or slumps or anything numbers related.

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Martin Prado couldn't believe call by umpire

Arizona Republic — It's a good thing for third-base umpire Jordan Baker that the Diamondbacks wound up winning Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, because his call in the sixth inning would have joined the litany of others that have cost teams games this season. Baker called Carlos Beltran safe at third base on a stolen base attempt. It seemed clear on replays that Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado tagged Beltran before he reached the bag.

Martin Prado stuck in a rut again

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado looked like he was coming out of his slump last week, when he went 3 for 5 against the Marlins, to raise his batting average to .246, the highest it has been since April 18. Unfortunately, he has just two hits in five game since, as he continues to struggle to find his swing. Prado is hitting just .232 on the season entering play Friday, thanks to a 2-for-19 slide. He has just three extra-base hits in the month of May, all doubles, and none in his last eight games.

Cliff Pennington getting cozy with bench

CBSSports.com Fantasy — With Didi Gregorius' emergence, Diamondbacks veteran shortstop Cliff Pennington has seen his playing time dwindle. In fact, he's been sharing time at second base with Josh Wilson and Martin Prado, and he's made just three starts since May 5. He could see even less playing time when Aaron Hill (hand) comes off the disabled list. Pennington is batting just .212 through 34 games and isn't exactly forcing his way into the lineup. "When you get a chance to play you got to play," Pennington said, per The Arizona Republic. "I got off to a slow start and had a rough stretch for a few at-bats, but I’ve...

Martin Prado's 'old swing' re-emerging

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Diamondbacks infielder Martin Prado was left out of the starting lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers for just the second time in 33 games. Manager Kirk Gibson said it was just a routine day off and not related to Prado's slow start. In fact, Gibson said he's encouraged by Prado's progress. Prado, who slid down to sixth in the lineup Monday, is batting .323 (10 for 31) with one home run, one RBI, two doubles and three walks in his last eight games. "I thought (Monday) he swung the bat as good as he’s swung it in a long time," Gibson said, per The Arizona Republic. "You could see his old swing th...

Martin Prado not worried about slow start

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Diamondbacks veteran Martin Prado told reporters Tuesday his slow start is nothing to worry about. He remains confident he will figure it out offensively. "There is nothing wrong with me," Prado said, per The Arizona Republic. "I know the results are not the same as what I’m capable of doing, but I feel like everybody’s panicking. I’m not panicking. I know what I can do. I don’t care what people say. I just care what I do, what I can control, and how I can prepare for a game. That’s all that matters." Prado finished April batting .159 (11 for 69) in his last 16 games. However, he homered Monda...
