Daily Red Sox Links: Nathan Eovaldi, ‘Extreme Ballparks’, Marwin Gonzalez

In today’s links, Nathan Eovaldi is a highly sought after free agent. Plus some fun ballpark history and Marwin Gonzalez as a perfect fit for multiple teams. A lot of teams besides the Red Sox would like to see Nathan Eovaldi pitching for them next season. (Rob Bradford; WEEI) After scaling the mountain in 2018, the Red Sox will try to do it again in 2019. What can they do to accomplish that goal? (Nick Cafardo; Boston Globe) Fenway Park is a pretty funky ballpark, especially compared to the modern standards. Here are some other “extreme ballparks.” (Eric Enders; The Hardball...

Houston Astros: Tony Kemp must be involved in replacing Marwin Gonzalez

The Houston Astros cannot replace Marwin Gonzalez with one person. While the acquisition of Aledmys Diaz can be a smart buy, Tony Kemp also needs to be in the mix. The Yankees should take a flyer on Marwin Gonzalez

The Yankees should take a flyer on Marwin Gonzalez

Gonzalez provides both a reliable contingency plan at first base and depth across the diamond. Heading into the 2018-19 offseason, the Yankees’ first base situation remains murky. Sure, the Bombers have two options at the position, but both have their fair share of uncertainty. Greg Bird’s prospect sheen has worn almost completely off at this point, and one wonders if he can ever recapture the glory of his 2015 debut. Meanwhile, Luke Voit emerged out of nowhere to give the Yanks hope at the position, but he has yet to prove that he can sustain an above-average batting line over the...

Astros: Marwin Gonzalez will command a sizable raise in free agency

Of all the Astros’ impending free agents on the position player side, Marwin Gonzalez likely holds the most value to the team. Angels Offseason Options: Marwin Gonzalez

Gonzalez is baseball's best utilityman right now. He played every position but pitcher and catcher in 2018. He's also hit much better over the past two years. Prying him away from the Astros might cost too much for the Angels, though.

The Astros will need to upgrade the catcher spot this offseason

Now the Astros have eliminated, it’s time to start looking at how they can return to the World Series in 2019. We know that the impending free agents are Charlie Morton, Dallas Keuchel, Marwin Gonzalez, Evan Gattis, Tony Sipp, Martin Maldonado, and Brian McCann. That is about 28% of the Astros playoff roster in 2018. Astros Open Forum: What are the Astros Needs in 2019? What Will They Do?

Astros Open Forum: What are the Astros Needs in 2019? What Will They Do?

We know Jeff Luhnow reads TCB. Tell him what to do. I’ll start this. As things stand now, these are the weak spots on the Astros likely 2019 roster that the they are going to need to improve. The Astros are probably losing three of their five starting pitchers for next year; Dallas Keuchel, FA. Charlie Morton, FA/possible injury. Lance McCullers, probable injury. The Astros are probably losing their main DH, Evan Gattis, who was very subpar anyway. Do you trust Tyler White here, or was his September slump the real White? The Astros are probably losing Marwin Gonzalez, utility player/left...
