Matt Wieters hits one deep

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Orioles catcher Matt Wieters homered Wednesday during a loss to San Diego. Wieters went deep for the sixth time this season in the fourth inning for a solo shot.  The catcher, who is now batting .237 on the year, went 1 for 2 in the game with two walks.  Wieters had gone 0 for 8 in his previous two games and is still trying to find a hot streak for the Orioles. He does have six homers and 21 RBI with 15 runs scored. Wieters is slugging .427 and continues to play stellar defense.

Jason Marquis makes it four straight wins

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Padres starting pitcher Jason Marquis allowed two runs on seven hits and four walks in five-plus innings, leading San Diego to an 8-4 win Wednesday against the Orioles. Marquis, who struck out three, pitched into the sixth inning, but he was pulled after allowing a leadoff double to Chris Davis and walking Matt Wieters. The only runs Baltimore scored off Marquis (5-2) came off solo home runs from Wieters and J.J. Hardy. Marquis' ERA actually rose a fraction from 3.48 to 3.49, but he has won four straight starts. Wieters' double in eighth inning dooms Hochevar, KC

Topeka Capital-Journal —   BALTIMORE — Matt Wieters drove in three runs, including the tiebreaker in the eighth inning, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 on Tuesday night on a soggy night at Camden Yards. After blowing a three-run lead, the Orioles went back on top in the eighth. Adam Jones drew a leadoff walk from Tim Collins (1-1) and advanced when Luke Hochevar threw wildly to first base on a pickoff attempt. CBSSports.com Fantasy — Orioles diehard and news aggregator extraordinaire Jeff Lippman recently suggested that switch-hitting catcher Matt Wieters become strictly a right-handed hitter "because he actually has a plan at the plate" from that side. The numbers kind of prove it. This year, he's batting .167 with a .520 OPS from the left side compared to .300 and .930 from the right side. CBSSports.com Fantasy — Orioles catcher Matt Wieters drilled his fourth home run of the season during a 6-2 loss at Seattle Monday night. He finished 1 for 3 and accounted for all of the team's runs with his two-run blast off Mariners starter Joe Saunders in the fourth inning. Wieters' homer halted a nine-game stretch without going deep as his last homer came April 18 against Tampa Bay. Last season, he belted six homers during the month of April.

Luis Exposito summoned by Orioles

CBSSports.com Fantasy — The Orioles recalled catcher Luis Exposito from Triple-A Norfolk Sunday before a game against Oakland with Taylor Teagarden going on the disabled list, MASNSports.com reports. Exposito will back up Matt Wieters behind the plate.  He was batting .218 at Norfolk with three doubles and six RBI over 55 at-bats. Exposito made several poor fielding plays during spring training, MASNSports.com reports. He is the best among very few options at the catcher position in the Baltimore organization.
