The Yankees are taking a risk in signing DJ LeMahieu as a utilityman

The Yankees envision LeMahieu as their version of Ben Zobrist or Marwin Gonzalez, but will that become reality? The Yankees surprised many when reports emerged that they had agreed to a contract with DJ LeMahieu. The team’s purported pursuit of Manny Machado, of course, came into question. Whether the Yankees are still pursuing Machado or not, they brought in LeMahieu to be a significant piece of the infield going forward. The Yankees have key players locked in as starters for their infield currently, with high expectations for sophomore seasons from Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar....

Yankees: What the DJ LeMahieu Signing Means for Miguel Andujar

What are the implications for Miguel Andujar now that the New York Yankees have signed DJ LeMahieu? On Tuesday, the New York Yankees shocked the baseball world when it was reported, per the YES Network’s Jack Curry, that they had signed DJ LeMahieu to a 2-year, $24M deal. This has to mean that the “fully operational […] Yankees: What the DJ LeMahieu Signing Means for Miguel Andujar - Call to the Pen - Call to the Pen - A Major League Baseball Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

So, uh, what’s the plan when Didi Gregorius comes back?

So, uh, what’s the plan when Didi Gregorius comes back?

The Yankees have a lot of infielders now. While it’s not a move people would have expected (or wanted, for a lot of fans), the Yankees signed DJ LeMahieu on Friday. Barring anything unforeseen happening, that probably locks in the Yankees infield for the 2019 season. Reportedly, LeMahieu will play a sort of super utility role, alternating between first, second, and third. Miguel Andujar, Gleyber Torres, and other former Rockie Troy Tulowitzki will probably all get plenty of time at their positions. There will be some combination of Luke Voit and Greg Bird at first. Torres will probably...

Can Miguel Andujar improve at third base?

Can Miguel Andujar improve at third base?

The rookie’s defense was a cause for consternation last year. Based on recent history, is there a chance he can improve? For the most part, Miguel Andujar had a wonderful rookie campaign. He finished second in AL Rookie of the Year voting, behind only two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani. He was a potent force at the plate, slashing .297/.328/.527. He never wavered throughout the year, maintaining a level of offensive consistency from start to finish, and tossed in some big hits in big moments to boot. Of course, Andujar’s strengths came with glaring weaknesses on the infield dirt....

New York Yankees future does not include Miguel Andujar

New York Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar has gone from a potential building block to an afterthought. Just three or four months ago, Miguel Andujar looked like a part of the future for the New York Yankees. The Padres are reportedly interested in Miguel Andujar, but there’s only one way it makes for the Yankees

Squint your eyes and you can see the makings of a powerhouse. The Padres have the game’s best and deepest farm system, much like the Yankees a year or two ago, and the Yankees rode that farm system to quicker than expected contention in 2017. San Diego’s farm system is absurd. They don’t have the […] The post The Padres are reportedly interested in Miguel Andujar, but there’s only one way it makes for the Yankees appeared first on River Avenue Blues.

Let’s talk about Miguel Andujar

Let’s talk about Miguel Andujar

It’s important to have some perspective when discussing Andujar. In an offseason that features the free agencies of Manny Machado and Bryce Harper, no player has polarized the Yankees fanbase as Miguel Andujar. The team’s third baseman enjoyed a remarkable season at the plate, but he also showed eyebrow-raising limitations. Recent discussions surrounding the 23-year-old have resulted in a breakdown in communication, complete with opposite camps shouting at each other and refusing to accept common ground, especially when trade possibilities enter the discourse. It’s time to have a...

What the Padres could offer for Andujar; the Yankees should focus on Robertson and Britton now; Stanton hits baseballs extremely hard NJ.com | Brendan Kuty: Earlier this week we learned that the Padres covet Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar. Kuty runs down why the Yankees might consider a deal with San Diego, as well as reasons to avoid it. He figures the Bombers would focus on the Padres’ top pitching prospects. The availability of Andujar on the trade market will likely define the early stages of 2019. It should be interesting! New York Post | Dan Martin: The Yankees are stuck...

Padres interested in Andujar; Gary Sanchez among bounceback candidates in 2019; Every MLB team’s best win of 2018 SNY | Deesha Thosar: With Manny Machado available in free agency, the Yankees appear to be shopping Miguel Andujar. The Padres are reportedly showing interest in the young third baseman, and Thosar even suggests that they might even be willing to part with top prospect Fernando Tatis, Jr. for Andujar. In my opinion that’s a bit much, but as the Padres are no stranger to doing weird things (I mean, what in the world was that Wil Myers contract?), I won’t blame others for...

Three Yankees prospects with a lot to prove in 2019

Three Yankees prospects with a lot to prove in 2019

These prospects need to have big seasons in 2019. The Yankees’ farm system unsurprisingly dropped in rankings over the last few years, but for all the right reasons. The team graduated a number of top prospects who found success at the big league level. Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge, Luis Severino, Miguel Andujar, and Gleyber Torres all come to mind. Others were traded away to help the big league team. That’s exactly how a minor league system should operate. Now, after some turnover at the various levels, it makes sense to check in on a few prospects. A number of outlets will soon share...

Harper a better fit than Machado?; Andujar could still have place on the team if Machado signs; Machado might want to be a Yankee but must “sacrifice”. New York Post | Ken Davidoff: The Yankees just met with Manny Machado, and he’s clearly on the team’s radar. Here, Davidoff runs down the pros and cons of signing Machado versus Bryce Harper. He concludes that Harper might be the better choice for the Yankees, thanks in no small part to the left-handed Harper’s fit at Yankee Stadium.
