Brock Holt’s playing time needs to go to someone else

Brock Holt’s playing time needs to go to someone else

/o\ The Red Sox, for as well as they’ve been playing of late, are in a bit of a bind with their infield. Hanley Ramirez is out for an unknown period of time. He generally doesn’t play in the field, of course, but his absence will force Mitch Moreland into the lineup more often against left-handed pitching. Eduardo Nuñez is also out, and while he’s hoping to be back soon his absence has taken away John Farrell’s ability to get his players rest and generally play the hot hand. Dustin Pedroia is back in the lineup, but the team is (rightfully) being very careful with the veteran...

Sox Plate Seven In Fifteenth, Edge Devil Dogs, 13-6

Sox Plate Seven In Fifteenth, Edge Devil Dogs, 13-6

Things were bleak. The Red Sox entered the top of the ninth at the MostPulpDome trailing by three and facing a Tampa closer with 44 saves. The Evil Ones had already won and the AL East lead was about to be sliced to a thin two games. Then, Mitch Moreland walked. Then some errors, wild pitches and hits ensued and—shazam—it was tied 5-5. Multiple frustrating squanders followed, but in the 15th, the Carmine Hose put the game away with seven runs for the 13-6 win. There were multiple contributors to this one, no one star.  It was a team-defining character win. (AP Photo)

(Tim Britton; Providence Journal) The Red Sox would love to have Christian Vazquez’ bat in the lineup as much as possible, but the catchers’ playing time should be based on the day’s starting pitcher. (Evan Drellich; CSN New England) Not that there was a whole lot of doubt before, but Addison Reed is asserting himself as the premiere...

Boston Red Sox: Mitch Moreland is heating up at the right time

Help Us Select The FenwayNation August Player O' Month

This month, there are several Red Sox players who deserve to be named the FenwayNation Player Of The Month. Usually, the Editors of FenwayNation (truthfully, just the Editor-In-Chief) scan the monthly stats and make the easy choice—which is pretty self-evident most months. Not this August! Strong cases can be made for: Drew Pomeranz (4-0, 2.28 ERA), Andrew Benintendi (.330, 6 HRs, 18 RBIs), Christian Vazquez (.400, 3 HRs, 6 RBIs), Mitch Moreland (.329, 5 HRs, 14 RBIs) and Brandon Workman (12 IP, 2.25 ERA). That's why we are asking our readers to help us make the pick this month. So far,...

(Peter Abraham; Boston Globe) A month into the Rafael Devers experience, what have we learned about the rookie? (Nicole Yang; Boston.com) Mitch Moreland will be a free agent after this year.
