Red Sox Erupt For Seven In Seventh, Beat Rangers, 9-4

Red Sox Erupt For Seven In Seventh, Beat Rangers, 9-4

(AP Photo)Chris Sale did not get his MLB record ninth straight game with ten strikeouts (he ended up with six), but he and his team won, 9-4 over Texas. The lefty ended up going 7.1 innings and giving up just three earned runs for his fifth victory of 2017. The Sox trailed 3-1 before exploding for seven runs in the seventh inning—keyed by Dustin Pedroia's two-run double that got the ball rolling. One out singled by Andrew Benintendi and rookie Sam Travis set the stage, then both Mitch Moreland and Josh Rutledge also singled. The Carmine Hose have now won three straight and look to Drew...

Sam Travis Set To Make His MLB Debut Tonight At 1B

Sam Travis Set To Make His MLB Debut Tonight At 1B

With a left-handed starter on the mound for the Texas Rangers, newly-promoted Red Sox prospect Sam Travis is very likely to get the start tonight at first base. Travis has been red-hot at AAA during the month of May and can offer The Carmine Hose some needed right-handed power. Travis has generally been an under-appreciated player in the organization—drafted in 2014's second round out of Indiana University-Bloomington. He was initially drafted in the 40th round of the 2011 draft by the Reds, In addition to getting some righty thump in the lineup, Travis can also 'spell' Mitch Moreland—who...

Bogie And The Chicken Propel Red Sox Over Texas, 11-6

Bogie And The Chicken Propel Red Sox Over Texas, 11-6

(AP Photo)Xander Bogaerts had three hits and three RBIs, while Dustin Pedroia nailed a key two-run double in Boston's 11-6 win over the Rangers. The Red Sox broke open a tight game with three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to take command for Rick Porcello (who was just "OK") in his third win. Mitch Moreland also had two hits and two RBIs in the satisfying win. The Boston bullpen worked 2.1 innings—giving up one run on two hits (one of which was Joey Gallo's 14th HR). Both The Evil Ones and the Yankees (see what we did there?) lost, so The Carmine Hose (despite a lousy start to the...

Power-Hitting 1B Sam Travis Promoted From Pawtucket

Power-Hitting 1B Sam Travis Promoted From Pawtucket

Maybe this will jump-start the anemic Red Sox power stats. Sam Travis, one the most talented position players in the organization, has been called up from AAA Pawtucket to the big club. The 6', 210-pound Travis is currently the #3 prospect in the Sox farm system and has been on a tear in May. He's hitting .333 for the month—and on the year overall, he has 4 HRs and 14 RBIs in 33 games. Travis (a 23-year-old 2nd round pick in 2014) will likely face left-handers in place of Mitch Moreland.

E-Rod, Mookie & Two-Bags Salvage One Left Coast Win

E-Rod, Mookie & Two-Bags Salvage One Left Coast Win

(AP Photo)Suffering a four-game sweep at the hands of a pathetic team like the Oakland A's might have been too humiliating to take. Thankfully, the Red Sox mustered a full team effort to smite the Awful Athletics, 12-3 on Sunday. The win puts Boston barely over the .500 mark on the year (22-21), and makes the 6-hour flight east a little more tolerable. Eduardo Rodriguez was terrific again—going eight solid innings and giving up three earned runs. E-Rod struck out eight and walk just one Oaklander. Mitch Moreland homered in his third straight game—hopefully entering one of his power...

Red Sox vs. Cardinals Lineups: Pitchers hitting again

The Red Sox send their main lineup (minus the DH) in the series opener in St. Louis After just a week, we’re already back to watching some National League baseball. Once again, the Red Sox will be facing off against an NL Central opponent, this time travelling to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals. Boston will be sending what is essentially their main lineup to the plate, with the exception of Hanley Ramirez. He did return to action on Sunday, but with the National League still pretending it’s 1944, Boston only has room for one of Ramirez and Mitch Moreland. Today, the latter gets a...

Red Sox lineup: Hanley Ramirez out in series finale vs. Brewers

After leaving Wednesday’s game with a shoulder injury, Hanley Ramirez is out of the lineup Thursday in the series finale against the Brewers. Hanley Ramirez Out Of Thursday's Red Sox Line-Up

Hanley Ramirez Out Of Thursday's Red Sox Line-Up

Not surprisingly, Hanley Ramirez will not be in Thursday's matinee line-up for the Red Sox. He left last night's game, suffering a spasm in his upper right trapezius muscle. Wednesday was the first time that Ramirez had played first base in 2017. Mitch Moreland will take over first-base duties today.
