Mookie Betts Remains A Long-Shot For MLB ASG Start

Mookie Betts Remains A Long-Shot For MLB ASG Start

With little time left, Red Sox right-fielder Mookie Betts is pretty much out of the running for one of the three starting outfield spots on the American league All-Star team. As of Tuesday, Betts trails fourth-place holder Michael Brantley by 54,744 votes. With Mike Trout (the second-highest vote-getter) out of the running with an injury, the fourth spot is key. But, the chances are now very slim for having any starters in Carmine Hose at the Miami classic on July 11th.

Will Red Sox Outfield Claim Three Gold Gloves This Year?

Will Red Sox Outfield Claim Three Gold Gloves This Year?

(USAToday Sports)Brandon Wile of TheScore.com raises a fascinating possibility for the 2017 Red Sox. The team could become the first in MLB history to have three Gold Glove outfielders. All three players—Jackie Bradley, Jr., Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi—have had stellar defensive seasons so far this year. Yesterday, Benintendi logged his fifth OF assist. Betts already has 15 defensive runs saved this year in RF—leading the majors. JBJ has three OF assists and has already yanked back a few HRs. The evidence is clear that the 'Killer B' unit should be in serious contention at all...

Heyman’s Latest: Betts, Santana, Rays, Bautista, Braves, Arrieta, Holland

The Red Sox looked into a long-term extension with Mookie Betts last winter, but both Betts and Xander Bogaerts are comfortable in year-to-year deals for now, FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman reports.  Betts is already making a nice sum in endorsement deals, so it perhaps isn’t surprising that he (and Bogaerts) are in no rush to…

Mookie And The Pom Shine, Red Sox Beat 'Stros, 2-1

(AP Photo)If Drew Pomeranz pitches like he did tonight, the Red Sox will be a very successful team. The lefty hurled 6.2 innings—giving up just one earned run (a solo HR) on only four hits. With the game tied at 1-1 in the eighth, Mookie Betts clouted a first pitch home run to make it 2-1—the eventual final score. The bullpen took over from there—with Joe Kelly, Matt Barnes and Craig Kimbrel (save #19) closing it out. Dustin Pedroia contributed two hits in the win, and Mitch Moreland drove in the other run in the contest. The win pulled Boston to within 1.5 games of The Evil Ones—who...

Daily Red Sox Links: Mookie Betts, Jason Groome, Hanley Ramirez

Today’s links feature plenty on Mookie Betts as well as some praise for Jason Groome and Hanley Ramirez. We already knew a hot streak from Mookie Betts was coming. It appears to have arrived. (Alex Speier; Boston Globe) Speaking of Betts, he and the Red Sox talked long-term extension in the offseason, but Betts chose to continue to go year to year. Only makes sense for a young superstar. (Jon Heyman; FanRag Sports) Jason Groome hasn’t been able to show a ton on the field yet, but he has been impressing his teammates and coaches with his dedication. MLB rumors: Red Sox approached Mookie Betts about extension

MLB rumors: Red Sox approached Mookie Betts about extension

The Red Sox explored a long-term extension with Mookie Betts, but the star outfielder wasn’t too crazy about the idea. As Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports, the Red Sox approached outfielder Mookie Betts during the offseason about the possibility of signing him to a long-term-deal, but the 24-year-old star decided that he’d rather keep going year-to-year and let the arbitration process play out. If Betts keeps playing the way he has since breaking into the majors back in 2014, he stands to earn a massive payday when he becomes a free agent after the 2020 season. Over his first 1,883...

REPORT: Red Sox Tried To Lock-Up Betts Long-Term

REPORT: Red Sox Tried To Lock-Up Betts Long-Term

(Red Sox Team Photo: Michael Ivins)According to Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com, the Red Sox tried—this past offseason—to sign Mookie Betts to a long-term deal. The 24-year old —for now—prefers to go with a year-to-year contract situation. Kudos to the Boston front office for making the effort—which they should continue to pursue relentlessly. Xander Bogaerts has also preferred to go with the year-to-year approach—as do many young player in MLB today. Boston is paying Betts generously this year ($950,000), but the team absolutely needs to lock this kid up for his entire career.
