The Detroit arbitration class is projected to earn a total of $24.3 million for the 2018 season. Nicholas Castellanos savors 100 RBI milestone: 'I always believed I could do it'

Nicholas Castellanos savors 100 RBI milestone: 'I always believed I could do it'

In 104 games since June 1, hes hit .305 (.905 OPS) with 22 home runs, 25 doubles, seven triples and 76 RBIs. MINNEAPOLIS -- Nicholas Castellanos ended May hitting just .209, with an OPS of only .636.  The fact that he was consistently among the leaders in hard-hit balls was beginning to seem like a cruel joke.  On Friday at Target Field, with just one weekend left in a long and trying 2017 season for the Detroit Tigers, Castellanos clubbed his 26th home run and collected his 100th and 101st RBIs.  He became one of only a handful of Tigers in history to...

Tigers 4, Royals 1: Nick Castellanos, Daniel Norris help Detroit snap long losing streak

Castellanos’ three-run double helped the Tigers take down Danny Duffy and the Royals. Here’s a not-so-fun fact: the Detroit Tigers have only won five games in September. However, there’s a fun part to that fact; of the Tigers’ five wins, two have come against Marcus Stroman and Danny Duffy, two of the best young starters in baseball. Detroit’s win over Danny Duffy came on Thursday evening in their final matchup with the Kansas City Royals this season. The Tigers came away 4-1 winners thanks to a four-run fifth inning that ended Duffy’s evening. JaCoby Jones kicked off the...

DETROIT (AP) -- Max Kepler and Brian Dozier homered, Byron Buxton had three hits and the playoff-chasing Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 7-3 on Friday night. The Detroit Tigers need to keep Nicholas Castellanos for the long haul

The Detroit Tigers need to keep Nicholas Castellanos for the long haul

Time is wasting on an opportunity the Tigers can’t afford to miss. While his team struggles to the end of a bitter 2017 campaign, Nicholas Castellanos has been making a lot of noise lately. The Detroit Tigers’ new right fielder last went hitless in a game on September 2. That game is his only 0-fer since August 28. He has a new position, a lengthy hitting streak, and a second chance to turn himself into a productive everyday major league player. The Tigers may yet have a second chance of their own: to sign Castellanos to a long-term contract. An extension to a player who hasn’t...

Detroit Tigers News: The 2018 Tigers will be hard to recognize

The roster overhaul is only beginning. With the 2017 season mercifully winding down, most have begun looking forward to what a 2018 Detroit Tigers squad would look like. And with all the recent departures, the answer is “very different.” Miguel Cabrera will be here, although no one knows what kind of shape his back will be in (#RestMiggy). Mikie Mahtook will be looking forward to round two after a breakout campaign this year. Nicholas Castellanos will be playing somewhere on the diamond. And pitchers Michael Fulmer, Matthew Boyd, Jordan Zimmermann, and Daniel Norris will make for a...

Tigers starter Chad Bell struck out three of the first four batters he faced but was knocked out of the game in the fourth inning. DETROIT -- This one can't be blamed on the young pitchers.  Alex Wilson, the Detroit Tigers' most experienced reliever, lost a three-run lead when he surrendered a grand slam to Jed Lowrie in the eighth inning. The Oakland Athletics beat the Tigers 9-8 Tuesday night at Comerica Park.  The Tigers had a chance to quickly retake the lead in the bottom of the inning. Nicholas Castellanos' towering fly fell just short of the wall. His...
