Astros 9, Tigers 1: Fulmer isn’t trying to get traded

Astros 9, Tigers 1: Fulmer isn’t trying to get traded

Fulmer’s frustrations continued on Saturday. Michael Fulmer took a beating and the feeble Tigers offense had no answer for Gerrit Cole, falling 9-1 on Saturday. Things started out badly, and only got worse for Michael Fulmer in this one. A Yuli Gurriel sac fly plated the Astros first run in the first inning. Nicholas Castellanos made a pointless throw wide of home plate rather than hit the cutoff man, allowing Jose Altuve to advance to second. He would likely have scored anyway on Josh Reddick’s RBI double shortly thereafter, but from second base he was able to waltz home with the...

Rumors: Tigers fielding offers for Fulmer, Castellanos

Rumors: Tigers fielding offers for Fulmer, Castellanos

Tigers rumors are continuing to surface ahead of the trade deadline. The Detroit Tigers have far fewer assets to deal at the MLB trade deadline this season compared to a year ago, but that does not mean they will be completely void of action. Francisco Liriano and Mike Fiers are the obvious candidates, as back-end starting pitchers are always a sought-after commodity, and Jose Iglesias could see some interest as well. However, the two most valuable players on the roster are Michael Fulmer and Nicholas Castellanos, and it appears that the Tigers have received some interest on both. Per Bob...

Joe Jimenez earned his Tigers’ All-Star selection

Joe Jimenez earned his Tigers’ All-Star selection

But it demonstrates a lack of star power on the team For the first time in a long time the Tigers did not have a clear All-Star on their roster. After the fire sale at last year’s trade deadline, the injury of Miguel Cabrera, and lackluster performance of Michael Fulmer, Victor Martinez, and Shane Greene, the Tigers’ selection to the 2018 All-Star Game is wide open. Nicholas Castellanos (.301/.352/.518, 135 wRC+) and Niko Goodrum (.251/.324/.457, 111 wRC+) have been the Tigers’ best hitters, but unfortunately they both play at positions where talent runs deep. In the outfield, there...

Rays 10, Tigers 9 (F/10): What was that game?!

Rays 10, Tigers 9 (F/10): What was that game?!

The Tigers made multiple comebacks but it wasn’t quite enough in an extra innings loss. The Detroit Tigers came back from an early 5-0 deficit to tie the score twice, but ultimately fell in extra innings to the Tampa Bay Rays. The bullpen put together a valiant effort after Francisco Liriano was knocked after 2 1⁄3 innings, but the offense couldn’t push across just one more run when it mattered. Nicholas Castellanos led the way with three hits and three runs scored, while Niko Goodrum drove in a team-high three RBI. We need a bit more time to digest this one. Discuss the game in the...

No, Nicholas Castellanos was not an All-Star snub

While the right fielder has been excellent this season, the competition has been even better. News of young reliever Joe Jimenez making the American League All-Star roster was met with much joy among Detroit Tigers fans over the weekend. Many see Jimenez as a cornerstone for the bullpen going forward, and his solid 2.85 ERA and 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings this season deserved to be rewarded. However, the announcement was slightly bittersweet, as Jimenez is scheduled to be the lone Tigers representative at the All-Star Game. While the team has few bright spots, Nicholas Castellanos has...
