Cubs: When will Nico Hoerner get that much-awaited phone call?

Few Chicago Cubs players had better springs than Nico Hoerner. He looked stronger, certainly more sure of himself, and his stats were good: 16-for-44, 8 runs, 11 RBI and an OPS of 1.055. He looked like a shoo-in, and then was optioned to Triple-A. Why? Forget the “he needs more seasoning” excuse; it’s the old […] Cubs: When will Nico Hoerner get that much-awaited phone call? - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - Chicago Cubs News and Fan Community

Nico Hoerner will start the 2021 season at the alternate site, per report

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports Eric Sogard will begin the season on the Opening Day Roster For most of this offseason, the feeling was that Nico Hoerner would need to spend a little bit more time in the minor leagues in 2021. Nico showed talent and maturity beyond his years when he joined the team during the playoff stretch in 2019. He filled in admirably at shortstop after Javier Báez and Addison Russell both landed on the injured list, but struggled against MLB pitching in the shortened season in 2020. He put up a slash line of just .222/.312/.259 over 126 plate...

Cubs: David Bote is making his case for the second base job

Nico Hoerner got off to a white-hot start this spring, giving himself frontrunner status in the battle for the second base job early on.
