Second base? Bullpen help? A rotation addition? Rumors from the Winter Meetings + Mike Rizzo on some of the chatter out in Las Vegas... Reports from the 2018 Winter Meetings in Las Vegas on Monday had Washington’s Nationals kicking the tires on some second basemen and considering further additions to the rotation and bullpen as they build their roster for the 2019 campaign. Even after adding Patrick Corbin on a 6-year/$140M deal last week, the Nationals, according to Fancred’s Jon Heyman, are still looking to add a starter, reliever, and second baseman. Brian Cashman explains why Yankees never made an offer to free agent Patrick Corbin

Yankees GM Brian Cashman was willing to offer Patrick Corbin a five-year deal worth around $100 million, but wasn't willing to meet his starting point of six years, $126 million. He doesn't regret it.

Giants could have leg up on Japanese pitcher

LAS VEGAS - As executives settled in for the first full day of the winter meetings Monday, one thing became clear: It's a good winter to be a free-agent starting pitcher, and not just because Patrick Corbin set the market at a high number with Washington (six years, $140 million). A lot of teams are looking for starters. Two who need them the most are the Giants and A's, who are likely to compete for the some of the same arms. Pitchers should be in demand, particularly those who are willing to take shorter-term deals. The Giants might have a leg up in one case.

MLB Winter Meetings 2018: What’s left for the Washington Nationals in Las Vegas?

What will Mike Rizzo and Co. in the Washington Nationals front office be trying to accomplish at the Winter Meetings? Having already acquired Kyle Barraclough and Trevor Rosenthal to help address their needs in the bullpen, added Kurt Suzuki and Yan Gomes behind the plate to shore up the catching corps, and signed lefty Patrick Corbin to bolster the rotation, what’s left for the Washington Nationals this week at 2018’s edition of the MLB Winter Meetings? “I don’t consider us done at all, we’re never done. We do this thing. This is my job, so I kind of do this every day...” -...

It’s time for the Yankees to pounce on Manny Machado or Bryce Harper

It’s time for the Yankees to pounce on Manny Machado or Bryce Harper

The Nationals grabbed Patrick Corbin, and the Phillies made a move for Jean Segura. The path is clear for New York to grab one of the biggest stars on the market. There has been a sense of division in terms of Yankee fan’s reactions to Patrick Corbin signing with the Nationals on Tuesday. Some saw the six-year, $140 million deal the lefty signed and breathed a sigh of relief that Brian Cashman refused to commit just one extra year for the 29-year-old. Others saw a wasted opportunity for New York to grab the pitcher they supposedly saw as their top target and complete the rotation while...

Signing Manny Machado is the Best Path to a Dominant Rotation

The Yankees did not sign this year’s top free agent starting pitcher: Patrick Corbin will instead have six tries to help the Washington Nationals win their first playoff series. Many Yankee fans, myself included, believed that Corbin represented the Yanks’ best path to creating a dominant rotation—but the reality is that he was never the […] The post Signing Manny Machado is the Best Path to a Dominant Rotation appeared first on River Avenue Blues.

It’s Harper’s world, we’re all just living in it... Go read your links: NATS BEAT: Nats GM: Corbin, Harper 'independent'; owner thinks OF gone -...

Patrick Corbin might have been a necessary risk for the Yankees

Patrick Corbin might have been a necessary risk for the Yankees

Corbin has his flaws, but there aren’t any investments clearly better than him on this year’s market or the next. The reaction to the Yankees passing on Patrick Corbin has been polarized, to say the least. One camp has expressed discontent about the Yankees not capitalizing on this chance to add top-flight talent to their rotation. The other camp has commended Brian Cashman for not matching the six-year, $141 million offer which brought Corbin to the Nationals, arguing that such a hefty contract for a pitcher without an established track record is an overpay. I find myself in the...
