Boston Red Sox Blog | ESPN Boston — BALTIMORE -- The Boston Red Sox on Friday traded utility infielder Pedro Ciriaco to the San Diego Padres in exchange for a player to be named later or cash, according to a team source. Ciriaco had been designated for assignment earlier this week when Will Middlebrooks came off the disabled list, a move that gave the team 10 days to either trade or release him. To help a depleted bullpen, the Red Sox also promoted pitcher Rubby De La Rosa from Pawtucket, a team source confirmed, and sent back reliever Alex Wilson, who pitched 2 2/3 innings in Thursday’s 13-inning loss.
