Rapid Reaction: Orioles 3, Yankees 2 (10)

Yankees Blog | ESPN New York — WHAT IT MEANS: Phil Hughes bounced back, but the Vidal Nuno magic ended, at least for night. BUCK-LE UP: The third pitch Nuno threw to Nate McLouth, McLouth drilled for the game-winning homer. It was remnants of the 2012 magic for Buck Showalter's team. THAT WAS BETTER: After going just two-thirds of an inning his last time out, Hughes went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits, including two solo homers. He struck out five and walked two.

Hughes was chased after recording just two outs in the first inning. He threw 36 pitches and none were especially good. Hughes had been pitching well. Hughes pitches Yankees past A's 4-2

San Francisco Chronicle — Hughes pitches Yankees past A's 4-2 Like Griffin, New York's Phil Hughes threw plenty of strikes and he scattered the few hits he did allow, working eight scoreless innings in the Yankees' eventual 4-2 victory over the A's. Hughes falling shy of the hype

Yankees Blog | ESPN New York — On a mid-April Saturday afternoon, New York’s two baseball teams sent two first-round draft picks to the mound. One almost made history. The other was booed off the field. While the Mets’ Matt Harvey was working on a near no-hitter in Minnesota, the Yankees’ Phil Hughes was getting hammered in the Bronx. Hughes lasted just two batters into the fourth inning, giving up five runs in a 5-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. “He didn’t really have a good command of his fastball,” said manager Joe Girardi.
